Swedish melodic rockers DEGREED released the new EP titled “The Leftovers Volume 1″ some months ago, via Frontiers Music. The physical CD version include 3 bonus tracks.
Despite its title, these are not ‘leftovers or discarded songs’, in fact for the last year and a half the band has been released some of the tracks as standalone singles.
”The Leftovers Volume 1 [CD version +3]” includes the just recorded song “If It Wasn’t For Me”, an anthemic AOR tune with that early DEGREED sensibility from their origins. Among the other songs we find the dynamic modern melodic rocker ‘Good Enough’, the uptempo catchy ‘Love Your Enemy’, and ‘Wildchild (Tribute To Alexi Laiho)’, a tribute to the late Children of Bodom frontman, easily the heaviest song DEGREED ever recorded.
“GET UP!!” makes justice to its title with its energetic punch, melody and anthemic chorus. “Hard To Be Human” is an emotional ballad, with a really cool feeling and a certain vibe of Def Leppard recent era.
We also find a new version of a track from the band’s ‘Are You Ready’ album, a reworked take on ‘Falling Down (Acoustic Version)’ completely different from the original, and the fresh, awesome ‘This Is Love (Synthwave Version), the tracks from their latest album but totally 80s infused.
Finally, there’s the previously unreleased ”Hear Me Out”, an intimate tune surrounded by piano, not exactly a ballad but a slow, atmospheric rock song.
As said, hardly ‘leftovers’, but very good songs from this talented band.
