Canadians Starchild hailed from Cambridge, Ontario, was founded in 1975 by guitarist Bob Sprenger, singer Rick Whittier and bassist Neil Light, while drummer Greg "Fritz" Hinz joined them later. With an interest in science fiction and a Hard Rock profile they drew logical comparisons to Rush. They recorded their debut ''Children Of The Stars'' at the fall of 77'. The big posters, the Rush lookalikes, the Hard Rock tendencies and their epic instrumental guitar domination easily lead to comparisons to the monster Canadian group.
In 1979 Light was replaced by Bill Mair and later on by Wayne Brown, while Hinz left to join Helix and was replaced by Dixie Lee.
Though the band never visited Europe, they were quite popular there. They ended their relationship with Axe Records due to disagreements regarding the musical direction of a second album, the band worked on it and a reputed interest by Attic Records appeared in the horizon, but they eventually disbanded in 1982. Sprenger and Light later played together in the bands Thief in the Night and Wake the Giants.
