As again FAKE , here’s the recent CD reissue of XYZ awesome self-titled 1989’s album made by really good Dutch label Music On CD. This company has been doing a great work lately making available again on disc hard to find melodic hard rock albums / bands. As usual, these are not freshly remastered releases,
they just use the best masters available. However, the quality / Dynamic Range are far superior the the original CD pressings.
Part of the hair metal movement but more melodic hard rock oriented sound-wise, XYZ were considered the unofficial house band of the Los Angeles nightclub The Whiskey in the mid 80’s. XYZ began in LA, California, with members Terry Ilous (vocals), Bobby Pieper (guitar), Patt Fontaine (bass) and Joey Pafumi (drums).
An early development deal with Atlantic / Enigma Records led to the recording of their debut album produced by Don Dokken, which quickly got radio play with the hits “Inside Out” and “What Keeps Me Loving You.”
XYZ‘s self-titled debut album is almost perfect in every facet. These guys were the real deal. They had the looks, they wrote and played killer songs, and they were an incredible live band. None of the songs are weak and all are performed with incredible energy, even the ballads.
It’s a shame that XYZ came at the tail end of the hair metal / melodic hard movement, they were among the best and deserved major success.
While Axe Killer records released a good remastered version of ‘XYZ’ some time ago, that release is long time deleted, so this Music On CD reissue at a very affordable price is really welcomed.
