After appearing in 2022 as Iron Maiden’s special guest during their North American Tour and embarking on their highly anticipated ‘Worlds Collide Tour’ – a massive European co-headline tour together with Evanescence, for which they sold almost 200,000 tickets – 2023 is set to be an even bigger year for WITHIN TEMPTATION.
The band is releasing a new double EP titled ”Wireless”, which marks the start of the countdown to the much-anticipated release of WITHIN TEMPTATION eighth studio album, due later this year. The release include songs from the new CD providing a glimpse into the band’s ‘new sound’.
Now 2023 WITHIN TEMPTATION keep their DNA alive, but build upon with much more bombastic riffs, breakdowns and epic, commercial choruses.
The title song ‘Wireless’ is a fiery and heavy song, about a soldier who goes to war convinced that he is going for a good cause. He’s indoctrinated by government-controlled media and thinks he’s going to be welcomed back as a savior, only to find out he has been used.
‘Don’t Pray For Me’ is one of our favorites, a punchy rocking track that showcases the band’s new sonic approach. German Annisokay frontmen Rudi Schwarzer and Christoph Wiezorek add their own layer of impressive vocal work to the mix in ‘Shed My Skin’. The two bands have clearly met their match with this stunning anthem.
‘The Purge’ is a soaring track built on a backdrop of heavy synth that accentuates the power vocals of singer Sharon den Adel.
Within Temptation often release their tracks in instrumental form alongside the regular releases, offering a unique insight into the complexities of the musicianship behind each song, something you don’t always get with other bands, and they easily hold their own against the lyrical versions.
Overall, it is a truly remarkable appetizer from the next album – brilliant production, unique and exciting instrumental work, incredible vocals, everything we have come to expect from Within Temptation.
