This is my first experience with Germany's Wild Frontier, and it's been a good one.2012 is the band's fifth album in their 20 plus year history. While the title's obvious reference could be to the widely publicized coming apocalypse, it's also the birth date, month and day, of frontman Jens Walkenhorst. What lies within 2012 is pretty much straight up melodic hard rock in an AOR wrapper. Good melody and hooks make all the song quite catchy.
Some songs are a bit more aggressive like Stay Tough, Favorite, and Long Gone. Mostly, though, the songs are simply rollicking melodic rock tunes that have hooks and choruses that stick to you. Notable are Another Lonely Day Without You, Why Don't You Save, and the motivational, It's All Up to You. Throw in a nice ballad, Why Are the Good Things Too Hard to Find, and you have a well-rounded record.
Wild Frontier's fifth disc, 2012, is simply solid and entertaining melodic hard rock. Very recommended.
