600x600

Hard Rocking UK guitar slammers Voodoo Vegas have released their album The Rise of Jimmy Silver and seeing as it’s been pretty much constant duck weather lately we decided to cheer ourselves up by giving it a good listen.
I think we should get it out the way early, Lawrence (the singer) sounds a lot like Axel Rose, and I feel like I need to apologise to him for making that comparison but it’s a fact and a fact that throughout the whole album works beautifully. I, like many, have often wondered what Guns ‘n’ Roses would sound like with the absence of mind altering substances, egos and another 30 years playing together. Well ladies and gents, this is it! Somewhere in the uneventful life of a small coastal british town, five people found each other who were meant to make music together.
Album opener King Without a Crown is a corker (what an awesome word) and opens the door of this album like a kinky butler opening the door to a swingers party. Classic slamming guitars over a simple drum beat is what we ordered and the chef is chopping it up and mixing it together with precision.
Most of the other songs follow the same classic Rock ‘n’ Roll script, seamless strings smashed along by the drums beating a merry rhythm over gritty vocals and even the occasional Harmonica. The lyrics, although simple enough to work in this kind of music, still tell a clear story each time and each song will have you singing along and tapping the steering wheel while you’re driving to your crappy job.
My favourite track on the album is Lost in Confusion, a slightly slower composition leaning almost into being a ballad, but it suits the style of singing and is a reminder of those classic 80?s slow tracks that all of us guys have tapped into a pub jukebox to impress a lady.
All in all the album is great fun, no real stand out tracks but solid playing throughout and I’m sure we will be seeing much more from these guys as they dominate the world of Rock.
See these guys at a small gig soon before they start selling out stadiums.
