Virgin Steele originally was founded by Jack Starr. After releasing their second album Jack Starr started recording his first solo album, Out of the Darkness. Meanwhile, David DeFeis continued the band with Edward Pursino. As stated in the Virgin Steele's website "we never actually asked Edward to join the band, he just came down one day and never left". After a lawsuit won by Jack Starr over the name Virgin Steele, he sold it to DeFeis.
