UFO vocalist Phil Mogg and Cleopatra Records will release soon and official remastered version of “Live At The Oxford Apollo 1985“, both on CD and vinyl LP. The gig was recorded & filmed for “The Misdemeanor Tour” VHS-only release, and never officially released until now. The disc includes two extra tracks from the show previously unavailable on the video.
By 1985, UFO needed a more commercial sound to compete with the melodic hard rock / AOR wave of time, and ‘Misdemeanor’ was shaped with a more polished, accessible sound. That’s reflected on this live recording as well: Paul Raymond’s keyboards gain strong presence, as well as the back-up vocals / harmonies provided by Raymond, drummer Jim Simpson and guitarist Atomik Tommy ‘M’.
This is a welcomed release as there isn’t too much UFO recordings from this commercial era, a great live set containing several tracks from the ‘Misdemeanour’ album and of course the classics ‘Doctor, Doctor’, etc.
The sound quality is very good as this is taken from the tapes recorded for the VHS release. The extra tracks performed that night – ‘Lights Out’ and ‘Too Hot To Handle’ – aren’t in the same quality, anyway it’s a nice addition to have this 1985 UFO document more complete.
