To celebrate 50 years since the start of TINA TURNER’s iconic solo career, ‘Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ is a huge 3xCD compendium of 55 tracks that compiles an incredible anthology of Tina’s legendary solo career through her singles.
This is the first time Tina’s complete singles collection has been released as one set, from Tina’s cover of ‘Whole Lotta Love’ in 1975 all the way up to the Kygo remix of ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’ in 2020. This set includes a brand-new version of ‘Something Beautiful Remains’, reworked by legendary producer and long-time collaborator of Tina, Terry Britten, retitled to ‘Something Beautiful’.
Turner released her first solo studio album, Tina Turns the Country On!, in 1974 while still part of the duo Ike & Tina Turner Revue. Her first single – and the first track in the new box set – is her cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” from her second album, Acid Queen.
The set also includes collaborations with Bryan Adams, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, and Rod Stewart.
Few musicians can be identified by a simple sketch. Think Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones’ tongue’n’lips logo; or a quick-draw thicket of sideburns and a quiff to suggest Elvis Presley. Sure, he was The King – but how about The Queen Of Rock’n’Roll?
A scribble of electric-shock hair and a slash of red lipstick can only signify one artist: Tina Turner. More than a singer, she coursed her way through half a century of music-making, smashed boundaries for both female and black artists, inspired a movie biopic, a West End musical and future generations of stars, and, though she bowed out of live performances in 2009, at the age of 69, her relevance persists.
Many have come for her throne, but Tina Turner remains… simply the best.
