So far we knew The Who as well as The Guess Who. Well now it’s time to learn about The Whocares too. With a name like that you know you’re in for a fun-loving record. The band plays a fast core driven rock‘n’roll reminiscent of the sound of bands like The Hellacopters and Gluecifer. They’ve already released a full length album entitled “Get Them” (2012), but that was more of a compilation CD of all the band’s tracks which were previously featured in demos, EPs and split CDs, plus two new ones.
What can one say about “Now in Full Stereo”? One thing is for sure, it’s rocking a great deal. The drum rhythms are fast, the guitar riffs are pretty tight and the vocals have that fun-loving rock‘n’roll brainlessness (probably because the lyrics are mainly about “the power of rock‘n’roll”). In general, I would describe “Now in Full Stereo” as a single gear album. The Whocares have chosen to go at full throttle for the duration of the record and this might get a bit tiring after a while. I won’t go as far as saying that every song sounds like the one before it, but with the exceptions of “Shakedown” and “Nothing Left to Say”, they do all share some resemblance.
The truth is I didn’t have a bad time listening to”Now in Full Stereo”, but that’s as far as it goes. Therefore, I couldn’t in all honesty describe it as anything more than “not bad”.
