As requested, here’s the hard to find Box Set “Godzology“, 5 CD’s resuming the career of cult Ohio rockers THE GODZ, including their 2 first – and the only with all original members – LP’s ‘The Godz’ (1978) and ‘Nothing Is Sacred (1979) remastered including bonus tracks, plus 2 discs of unreleased live recordings from the era and an extra disct of rarities, demos, outtakes.
Back in the mid-70s Eric Moore (vocals/bass), Mark Chatfield (guitar), Bob Hill (guitar/keyboards) and Glen Cataline (drums) got together to create a down to earth and dirty biker friendly hard rock based on the Grand Funk Railroad template.
Indeed, their debut album ‘The Godz’ (1978) proved to be a gem in the rough that nudged its way into the US top 200. With Cataline taking over vocals, the follow-up ‘Nothing Is Sacred’ (1979) rocked even harder, but there was internal combustion between band members and the group folded shortly after.
Moore and Chatfield reformed the band in 1985 recruiting Freddy Salem (ex Outlaws; guitar) and Keith Valentine (drums) to release another album, but the industry ignored The Godz comeback.
A last-ditch effort in the form of a re-mix of the previous effort with the title of ‘Mongolian’ (1987) came before folding again. Another reformation would see the release of ‘Last of the Outlaws’ (2012). This time the band would have to quit for good as Glen Cataline, nicknamed “Animal” and drummer on the first two albums, died on April 14, 2019, at age 67. Eric Moore died on May 17, 2019, after a long battle with bladder cancer also at age 67.
THE GODZ were crazy, fun American rock n’ roll, raw and in your face. ‘Godzology’ is a proper resume of their best years.
