Compared to The Chicago Transit Authority and Blood, Sweat & Tears, The Flock played less commercial music, more complex in structure than regular song compositions. For this, a considerable number of adherents fell in love with the group, and Columbia Records, encouraged by the success of the first album Blood, Sweat & Tears, signed a contract with The Flock.
