Bay Area thrash metal pioneers TESTAMENT have announced an explosive celebration of the band’s enduring legacy and their influential presence in the metal scene. On July 12, TESTAMENT will release the remastered versions of their seminal albums, 1987’s debut “The Legacy” and second effort 1988’s “The New Order” both digitally and on vinyl via Nuclear Blast Records.
TESTAMENT singer Chuck Billy states: “When ‘The Legacy’ and ‘The New Order’ were first recorded, we were new and had limited resources to record being a young band. Now, with the remastering, fans will hear the albums in their signature sonic onslaught they were intended to be heard.”
Remastered by Justin Shturtz at Sterling Sound, sophomore album “The New Order” now reveals new layers of sound. The original release sounded muddy at places, but this 2024 reissue is clean bright. Alex Skolnick’s guitar playing on this album is insane.
Even though there had less than a year between debut LP ‘The Legacy’ and ‘The New Order’, Testament already showed significant progress as songwriters as they crafted excellent thrash metal that got the listeners to get up off their arse and get into the pit.
This was the sound of Chuck Billy, Alex Skolnick and co. firing on all cylinders as they battered their way out of the Bay Area and into the thrash metal mainstream.
