There is no doubt about that Brazilian band SUNROAD is one of the most relevant names in the melodic Melodic Hard Rock / Metal scene in all of South America. After all, they have a 20-year career, eight albums released, and performed alongside great artists such as Joe Lynn Turner, Petra, Stryper, L.A. Guns, etc. “Sunesthesia” is SUNROAD’s second album with lead vocalist Steph Honde (Scream Taker, Hollywood Monsters) who also play guitar / keyboards.
The record has a very fine and sophisticated melodic hard rock sound, with influences ranging from Whitesnake, UFO, Michael Schenker Group to current House Of Lords, Reece – and features as well renowned guests.
The great Ronnie Romero (Rainbow) duets with Honde on one song, Carl Dixon (Coney Hatch, The Guess Who, April Wine) provide harmony vocals, Michael T. Ross (Hardline, Lita Ford) additional keyboards, and more.
“Speed Warning #1, as the name says, is one of the fastest and louder Sunroad songs ever, we wanted a very energetic song to be the album opening track, so we worked in a way to provoke something with such strong feeling from the listeners. I had an idea for classical intro and then, and then sudden fast riffs come, as well Steph composed the guitar harmonies and those fast, louder riffs and catchy choruses,” drummer Fred Mika states.
Songs like ‘Sink Your Teeth Into Me’, ‘Pieces Of Fantasy’, ‘Drown’ have as trong Whitesnake feel, also Reece (the band). So it’s not surprising to hear a cover of David Coverdale’s 1978 song ‘Only My Soul’, well done and with a cool keyboard work courtesy of Michael T. Ross (Hardline, Lita Ford).
A strong, classic sounding melodic / hard plotn08 album where production could be more warm for this type of classic rock. Anyway, you can’t find this kind of music easily nowadays, so it’s great to hear bands like SUNROAD keeping the flame alive.
Highly Recommended
