In 1997 and 1998 Steve Hunter performed with Tracy Chapman and he went on to play on her album "Telling Stories" (2000) and the following tour. He also contributed to Tracy Chapman's 2002 release "Let It Rain". In 2005 Hunter toured with Mitch Ryder on his German tour. In 2006 Lou Reed and Bob Ezrin decided to do a series of concerts based on Berlin and did not hesitate to call Hunter. The shows went on for a year and they ended up being on the record Berlin: Live at St. Ann’s Warehouse.
Following this production, Hunter became quite active. In 2008, he released two albums: Hymns for Guitar and Short Stories. The first one an acoustic album and the latter a hard edged blues rock album.
