There is no middle ground with SKYLARK. Metal fans either worship or despise them. Labels either sign or sue them (or vice versa). Band members either stay or make way. And so on. It’s just the SKYLARK way.

‘The Last Gate’ is full-length album no.8. In fact it’s been about 8 years since ‘The Divine Gates’ saga was unleashed. In that time the band has taken a few side steps on most fronts, but the vision has yet to waver. All of which of course has to do with Eddy Antonini. I’m not sure whether it’s truer to say that metal’s lucky to have found him, or that he’s lucky to have found metal. Either way, it’s a marriage made in heaven. But what this album asks you to do - is turn to the final chapter in his saga of the the marriage between heaven and hell.
We start with a spoken “Intro”. Yep it’s in broken English, and nope it doesn’t work any better now than it has at anytime in the band’s ten year history. RHAPSODY OF FIRE may not be one hundredth the band SKYLARK are musically, but at least they pay someone else to do the talking. I don’t know, maybe it’s a budget thing. But then the music starts. “The Scream” starts with thunder in the distance, then a solo violin, then a choir, then a band called SKYLARK snatching at speed, power and symphonic metal to hammer the foundations of the last chapter of the ‘The Divine Gates’ trilogy into the earth.
