I do not know what the band’s name means and I had never heard of them till now either, but I’m pretty sure you’ll have a lot to smile while listening to this collection of songs if you consider yourself a fan of underground Power/Heavy/technical Metal. SCARLATYNAwas formed in Germany back in 1987 and released a couple of obscure demos in the early 90s but did not proceed in recording any official album. Now, years later after their original days, the German quartet seems to be back in action and “Till The End” is served as retrospective collection of those demo days and all I can say in brief is that...

...the band kicked serious ass back then. Their style is definitely Metal, with a tendency in technical playing and complex - but not ‘prog’ - songwriting with various riffs and relevant tempos. They draw inspiration from the central/northern European school of technical Power Metal but also flirt a lot with the American school of 80s Metal. Thy have fast and furious parts intersecting with mild intermezzos, the atmosphere is dark and evil at times and the vocals shine on being theatric were need while unleashing good dozes of metallic shrieking in more in-your-face parts.

One good thing with SCARLATYNA’s songs is that they do not excess usual 5-minute durations, making them sound interesting and not boring. The musicianship is solid and pure, the production will remind you of the early 90s in the European Metal field and the atmosphere spread shall wake memories of the times Power Metal music did not have enough in common with happy singing and cheesy melodies. Names popping up to mind while listening to this beautiful album would include MORGANA LEFAY, HEXENHAUS.

There’s no let-down in this CD, rest assured. SCARLATYNA produced some quality Metal music two decades ago and it would be a shame to let this release fade into obscurity if the above lines touched some strings. It’s an obscure offering from a band that did not make it back then, but now here’s a good chance to feed your hunger with good Metal. Approved, approved, approved!
