Front
Greatest Hits Volume 1 is not what you think it is. New York's Rickity is just messin' with you. They haven't had enough albums to cull enough songs for a greatest hits album. Actually, they haven't had any albums, until now. Clever title for your first album, wouldn't you say.

Perhaps Rickity is trying to convince us that every song here is a gem, worthy of greatest hits status. Admittedly, the music within is surprising, definitely interesting. It's a hybrid of sorts. The foundation is easily classic rock, heavy rock with strong riffs, and then spiced with funk, some psychedelic, and more than a little rythm and blues. Then toss in Perrita Kitson's vocals which draw from her soul, jazz, R&B roots, and you have an interesting mix. Sizzle, for example, moves on the strength of funky groove, a heady classic rock guitar line, and Kitson's soulful rock mood.
Another, Out of Bounds begins with an intense blues vibe, but then twists into the romping rocker, with more strong guitar. Another guitar monster is Maverick Lover, slick riffs and leads, powered by thick bass line.

Then there's Doin' It For Cash, which merges Randy Pratt's blues harp with Kitson's demanding, gritty, vocal delivery. You don't want to get in this chick's way. Then to throw you off some more Rickity adds some spirited violin, and banjo to the arrangement. There's just a small taste of what lies within Greatest Hits Volume 1. Through your listen, the music may seem a bit eclectic, but everything turns on that classic rock groove. Anything else Rickity adds only makes their musical stew more savory. Whether you see them coming from traditional classic rock camp or today's alt/indie rock swamp, Rickity is definitely stirring things up and cutting their own path. Recommended.
