RAINMAKER was a great project by Swedish super guitarist Tommy Denander (RADIOACTIVE, DEACON STREET PROJECT, ALICE COOPER), stunning Norwegian singer Geir Rönning (SAYIT) and monster bass legend Tony Franklin.
The band’s self-titled album “Rainmaker” was originally released in 2000 by English label Z Records. It got rave reviews all over the world but Denander wasn’t completely satisfied with the mastering. Additionally, the CD is long out of print.
Now 2023 excellent label Pride & Joy Music (which some way replaces the defunct AOR Heaven Records) has created a special series ”Pride & Joy Music Classixx” and are reissuing “Rainmaker”, completely remastered by Denander himself and featuring a much more attractive new artwork.
The music in “Rainmaker” is classic melodic hard rock with a Scandinavian imprint, also the harder side of TOTO, Steve Lukather solo records, BURNING RAIN, etc.

Tommy Denander’s impressive skills shine all over the record. His riffs and solos are top notch – just check out the rapid hard rocker ‘Blood Brother Run’ – a song bringing to mind Doug Aldrich’s BURNING RAIN. But Geir Rönning’s talents can’t be overlooked either – the diversity of his voice from song to song is really remarkable.
Tony Franklin doesn’t need an introduction… just play ‘Father of Your Sins’ for some of his magic.
Other highlights include the title track, ‘Passion Again’, ‘King of Fools’ where they add some Eastern touches similar to some HOUSE OF LORDS, the ballad ‘The Sound Of My Heart’, and the killer ‘Bad Call’ where the band interplay is awesome.
A welcomed remastered reissue from a very good melodic hard rock album deserved to be revisited.
