Hailing from Denmark, PUSH were one of the bands that kept the melodic hard rock flame alive during the Nineties / early 2000’s. Push’s albums were in our diet between the late Nineties / early 2000’s when only a few bands were releasing classic melodic / hard rock music, a time when the genre started its resurgence.
The band now got the rights of all their albums and started by themselves a reissue campaign as most the CD’s are out of print. Today Push is reissuing their last album, “4 the Love of the Game“, originally published in 2002, and including 2 tracks that only appeared as bonus in Japanese edition of their previous CD ‘On The Run’.
Lead vocalist and songwriter Martie Peters has been surely inspired by White Lion’s Mike Tramp style, and he owns a similar vocal timbre too – raspy on the rockers and warm on the melodious ballads.
Overall the sound & production on “4 the Love of the Game” is rawer than on the previous albums, something you can verify compared with the last 2 tracks, recorded during the ‘On The Run’ sessions and originally listed as bonus tracks for the Japanese edition of that album.
The delivery is more biting here, ‘rough around the edges’ they say, done on purpose as Peters was looking for a more rock ‘n roll approach.
Songwriting is still very good though, with ‘Heart Is an Empty Space’, ‘Lucky Man’, ‘In My Blood’, and bluesy ballad ‘In My Blood’ sure to please your melodic hard rock thirst
Push from Denmark is a band still unheard by many – “4 the Love of the Game” is another strong album with quality timeless rock n’ roll. After this album Martie Peters dissolved Push and formed his own MPG / Martie Peters Group.
