Pteroglyph consists of solo musician Jimmy McGregor. After years of touring with his old band Mishkin, Jimmy decided to part ways with the band to pursue his solo career. We were lucky enough to get our hands on the debut recordFound. Oh, boy.
Each track throughout the record shows off a blend of different skills and genres. Whether it be the heart thumping drums ofExcess or the technical guitars that introduce first track EmpathyJimmycertainly knows how to play his instruments, but his vocals do feel a bit weak, especially during the clean sections of track four Earth.
The record ends with track five Endeavourwhich, to us, was the highlight of Found. The track takes a more melodic edge and reminds us a lot of the band Hands. Slow chugged guitars with well phrased vocals and strummed choruses with choir like vocals keep the track flowing until the last minute when the line “We will rise” is repeated over tapped guitars.
