ADD LINK! As requested, here’s the rare “In Memoriam“, the one and only album from melodic hard rockers PENNY LANE. The ‘Limited Edition – 1,000 copies only’ is stamped on the CD, and this has become a collectors item sold for over $300 on eBay.

The term PENNY LANE is certainly familiar to rock fans around the world. The fact that once there was a German hard rock band of the same name is probably less well known. Their music is catchy hard rock with melody, very American sounding circa 1988.
In fact, the album was written and recorded 1990-1991, but shelved. Then in 1994 stars aligned and the 10-tracker was finally released titled “In Memoriam”, as by then the band didn’t existed anymore, with the musicians involved in other projects.
Despite the indie nature of “In Memoriam” sound quality and production are fine, and there’s some darn good rocking songs in this CD. The band feels very American, melodic, with driving guitar riffs and cool hooks.

The story to this music goes as follows: After PENNY LANE’s foundation in 1989 it soon was clear that here was a band with an extraordinary potential and insiders already saw PENNY LANE on its way to the halls of fame. In 1991 the recordings for the debut album took place.
Ten songs were fully finished and they had it all; convincing hooklines, a fine arrangements, strong performances.

At this point the story begins to take a turn for the worse. Due to various unlucky circumstances the album could not be released and time went by. The band decided to do something new and the name PENNY LANE was erased off the map of German rock bands.

A few years after the record and all it involved came to a complete standstill. Well, here was some cool rock music hidden in the archive, and on the other hand there was the producer team and the record company crew, who all thought that it was a shame that fans of good rocking music didn’t have the chance to get to hear PENNY LANE’s great tunes.

As this opinion was shared by a lot of people in the business, the record company finally was encouraged to release the album anyway, as a tribute to a great band, which came close to really making it as PENNY LANE.
Only 1,000 copies of “In Memoriam” were pressed, and of course, sold out.
Music which has been unaffected by time, which should definitely not be missing in your collection if you love classic melodic hard from the ’80s.
And if there’s anything to be learned from this story then it is this: good music will always survive its creators. Good music will stay forever!
