Now that everyone has seen (and loved) the star-studded Tenacious D comeback video "To Be the Best," it's time to listen to the first single from their new album, the title track for "Rize of the Fenix." The album is set to be released on May 15.
The rock comedy duo's first movie, 2006's "Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny," is now considered a cult classic by many, but it's largely viewed as a bomb -- it made a total of only $8.2 million, even at the height of D frontman Jack Black's box office power. But the band is embracing the theme of resurrection on their new album, and the title track is entirely devoted to earning back the good name of the band, who first earned fame with an HBO series and Dust Brothers-produced rock album.
Owing more than a little to the riff-heavy arena rock stylings of bands like Boston and Styx, and sounding a lot like the mini-suite "City Hall" from their first album, the single "Rize of the Fenix" aims to win back fans. And of course, the only way to do that is to rock even harder than they ever have before.

Review:
I wanted to like this CD, I really did, as everything about it looked promising. The band name for one is great, and the album artwork hinted that something special would be contained within. And there is nothing wrong with being Nashville Pussy copycats, but Wake The Dead is a case of horrible production making an album damn near unlistenable.
As hard as I tried to give the Filthy Cheaters the benefit of the doubt on their independent debut offering, the muddy production values and amateurish songwriting abilities made this a tough one to get all the way through. The drum sound has no depth at all so it's like listening to someone pound away on garbage can lids, meanwhile the guitar work is completely drowned out. Adding to the problems is singer/guitarist Johnny T who sneers his way through each song, 14 of them to be exact, all of which are played with the same reckless abandon and thus become interchangeable.
The only track that differentiates itself from the others is "Women I Don't Know", which could be mistaken for an early American Dog outtake. But it doesn't take long for the Minneapolis, Minnesota natives to get sucked into the same old rut on the following number "Maximum Destruction" -- a rut they doggedly follow until the bitter, and welcome, end.
Caught somewhere between sleaze and punk, the Filthy Cheaters come across as a one trick pony, unable to offer anything other than full-speed ahead rock. Perhaps they are true punks and wanted this DIY sound, but with zero tempo changes this entire disc sounds like it keeps skipping after the first song. I honestly couldn't tell one track from the next, and by the end if the CD I no longer gave a damn. Sorry guys, despite the cool band name and fancy album artwork one key ingredient is missing -- listenable songs!

JW plays in the tradition of blues greats like Albert Collins, Lonnie Mack, Ronnie Earl, and Jimmie Vaughan. He can rock, too, although rock/blues is not his thing. JW wrote most of the tunes on this new album. Roy Orbison and Little Milton are listed as the authors of the two remainders. There's a new twist to JW's music on 'Seventh Hour'. Without ever sounding old-fashioned or even outdated, JW is mixing his blues roots with rock guitar sounds from the 1960s. Also, no guests on this album, which is rather surprising. On previous releases, Kim Wilson, Hubert Sumlin, Little Charlie, Junior Watson and Canadian blues/rock star, Colin James have been sitting in. This set of songs was recorded at JW's home with his regular band. The results are a compact sounding set of great tunes, opening a new chapter in the musical journey of a promising young blues man.
While keeping one foot firmly planted in the roots he came from, he's crossing boundaries making his music compatible to a younger generation of music fans.
He believes that “appealing to a younger audience is the most important way to ensure the evolution of blues-based music.” JW is well on his way!

This very intimate and rare production released in 2003 features a duo between Robbie Dupree on vocals and harmonica and David Sancious on acoustic piano. They perform a collection of some of Dupree’s most memorable songs minus the hit “Steal Away”, which surprisingly does not appear on this production. These are well crafted renditions of Mr. Dupree’s repertoire simplified in instruments but enriched with re-harmonization, beautifully performed by Mr. Dupree’s silk vocals and Mr. Sancious’ smooth yet fierce playing. The mood of the whole collection makes it a pleasure to listen to even if you’re not a fan of Robbie Dupree and even if you have never heard these songs before. The is an artist exclusive release.
David Sancious is one of the most talented and sought after keyboard players in the music industry. Just off a recent tour with Sting, David is back in his studio completing his ninth album entitled “The Treehouse Sessions”. His other most recent recordings include "9 Piano Improvisations", "Cinema" and "Live in The Now".
David has always been inspired and motivated by the composing aspect of music. He thinks of himself as a composer who plays well, rather than a person who is proficient on a given instrument. His recordings have attracted the attention of artists the world over.
Since his first big break as a member of the original Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band in the 70’s David has also worked with Peter Gabriel, Eric Clapton, Santana, Jeff Beck, Seal, Yousou Ndour, Zucchero, Francis Dunnery, Aretha Franklin and many others over the years, David is admired and referred to by many as a ‘Musician’s Musician”. David has used his talents as a pianist, synthesist, guitarist, arranger, and producer on recording sessions and concert tours, playing an eclectic and diverse range of music.

Italians Bejelit might be unknown to most metal fans in the States, but with their fourth full-length release Emerge, the band creates some decent European melodic metal.Emerge boasts 13 energetic tracks of edgy power metal. However, the number of songs and over an hour in length is a little too much to take in, even for a progressive/power metal band. A few of the songs could have been omitted or some excess fat could have been trimmed from the overall song structures.
The music itself is made up of semi-cinematic, symphonic arrangements, aggressive riffs, tasteful guitar leads, and various keyboard samples and atmospheres placed accordingly to enhance the songs’ mood. Comparisons to Kamelot, Rhapsody of Fire, Dream Theater, Empyrios, Symphony X and Sonata Arctica would not be out of place.
