Altenessen, a social melting-pot deep in the heart of the Ruhr Area. From the mid-19th century, the region supplied Europe's industrialisation with the required raw materials, mined under back-breaking conditions below ground in coal pits named Carl, Anna, Fritz-Heinrich, Helene and the like. Altenessen is also the musical domicile of Tom Angelripper, vocalist/bassist of German metal act Sodom, who has met for some years with his band members in a ratty rehearsal room in that part of Essen to produce tough-as-nails thrash music.

This Japanese reissue from the past decade – the only ever done as far we know – sounds fantastic. Not only has been remastered, but although it isn’t specified, it has been remixed too. Just listen to the rhythm section tracks; if you are familiar with this album this is immediately noticeable since the opening song.

The DVD concert performance is a rousing daylight display in which the band tried their best to win the fickle Brits over, and they pretty much succeeded. The Reading crowd didn’t really know what to think of the band, but by the end of the set, they were quite pleased.

All Exclusive Hard Rock
Meat & 3 Veg Blues Rock with inflictions of late 80ies lead breaks, grungy gravely vocals & a real flared-jeans 70 flavour. Sometimes I hear Zeppelin, other times Sound Garden, the bluesy side of Motörhead is there and there’s even a little Five Horse Johnson. But the beauty of this album is it‘s done sooo damn well.
