Not for the faint hearted or pussy glamsters and sleazsters, Motochrist play bitchin' rock 'n' roll soaked in the dregs of punk rock with Motorhead and Ramones thrown in for good measure, as well as the odd curveball and melodies and twisted lyrics to boot. 'Live To Kill Another Day' proving the point perfectly, kicking things off on a barnstorming riff that Lemmy would be proud of before 'The Fist' pulls up on a killer guitar lick with sufficiently violent lyrics - This shit is the bomb right here, picking up teeth indeed. If this were played in a night club a riot would ensue, no doubt about it. Never mind the fist, this is like an exocet going off. Motochrist change pace on the title track with a suitably summery keyboard and Beach Boys melody and harmonies to boot, the cheeky scamps!
Twelve tracks, each one as good as the other, spew forth turning my stereo into a foul rock 'n' roll belching beast. This should appeal to punkers and hard rockers in equal measures and I just can't get enough of this band whose sporadic output is, well...too sporadic quite frankly.
'Big Love' is a big fat bluesy work out with fuzzy guitar and honking piano delivering another sidestep for these West Coast bad boys that caught me off guard but expect the unexpected with Motochrist - that's the deal. 'Evil Is As Evil Does' rides out of town like a Dan Baird penned track until the wild axework on the solo takes it to another dimension with some classic lyrics. Album closer 'Lord Get Me Out Of Milwaukee' raised a titter with the usual twisted lyric as this record bows out on a mellow vibe - genius stuff. I love Motochrist I do.
Perhaps this motley crew should venture overseas and bring their rock 'n' roll to the masses seeing as they have an album to show off. Records like this deserve to be heard by many, so how about it chaps?
