It is very difficult to determine the genre to which Malice Mizer (マリス・ミゼル) belonged. Their appearance is a mixture of gothic, Victorian and 19th century decadence and could confuse the layman, especially if he is not familiar with the phenomenon of visual kei. The name of the group is also controversial, but according to Mana and Gackt, the words malice and mizer best answer the question “What is a person?”, and this is what the concept of the group is based on. Some may accuse Malice Mizer of being too heavy in their music, but in fact their discography includes rock, pop, metal, classical music, electronica and much more that you can imagine. Their style changed from year to year, but sometimes songs on the same album sound as if they were recorded by different groups. And although they created a new style in fashion (Mana is the creator of the Gothic Lolita style), their music remains unique, and to this day no one can recreate their sound.
