German rockers GOD’S ARMY (not religious oriented) featuring current and former members of Helloween, Firewind, Outloud, Vivaldi Metal Project, Scanner, and Joe Stump’s Tower Of Babel, released this strong album titled “Demoncracy” some time ago. As requested, here’s the band’s second effort, and a very good one for sure.
GOD’S ARMY delivers melodic hard n’ heavy / hard rock, large on riffs, rock beat and groove, catchy refrains, and killer guitar solos. Actually, in terms of the music and songwriting, “Demoncracy” is a really solid album thanks to the stupendous guitar work, with a traditional amp sound but all shaped in a very modern, punchy production.
You can hear the experience of super drummer Mark Cross (former Helloween, Firewind, Outloud, Tainted Nation), singer John ABC Smith (ex At Vance, Scanner) and their sidekicks in every song; catchy melodies, big choruses, dynamics and variation in songwriting.
Songs like ‘Free Your Mind’ (akin Judas Priest glorious ’80s), ‘Games Without Frontiers’ (excellent multi-part chorus), and the Saxon meets Queensryche ‘Before The Fall’ are great in every second.
There’s a 13 minute monster, ‘The Replicant’, with various parts, all interesting, ranging from melodic metal ala Accept to captivating acoustic passages with atmosphere. Additionally, the closing song must be mentioned. It’s a cover of the Paul Anka written song ‘My Way’, sung most famously by Frank Sinatra. God’s Army merely does a revved up, yet rockin’ version, and works pretty well.
“Demoncracy” is a very well composed, recorded and produced record of timeless hard ‘n heavy / hard rock / melodic metal.
