The project was founded in the mid-Eighties by keyboard players Douglas Morton and Kevin Monahan while working at E-Mu Systems in Santa Cruz, California, a pioneer Studio in the sampling industry.Both brought home a lot of new gear - synths, mixing consoles, etc. - to experiment with while producing songs for FX, so the chosen name for the band is not a surprise.
