French singer David Hallyday released two highly appreciated albums by AOR listeners ('88 True Cool, '90 Rock 'n' Heart) for their mixture of smooth melodies, romantic ballads and that typical eighties sound and production. Extensive touring followed and during a presentation in Paris at La Cigale on 26 October, 1991 Hallyday recorded "On The Road", a live album.
Two versions of the album were released: a standard edition with 13 tracks and this limited 2CD edition which includes an additional 7 tracks and a slightly different track order of the shared tracks.
Several songs were not from his 2 album releases like his very beautiful version of the J.D. Souther penned "Hold On Blue Eyes".
Among the songs exclusive to this 2CD version you find "He's My Girl" the title track from the 1987 comedy movie by the same name as well as "Rock Revival" from the same movie. As well as recording the the songs for the movie he also played one of the leading parts.
He also performs a cover version of Jeff Lynne's (ELO) "Don't Bring Me Down" and very good versions of "Wanna Take My Time" and "Different Destinations".
The production is very good and the sound is excellent. It's probably one of the best melodic rock / AOR live recordings from the period of it's release.
