DARK LEGION are a metal band from Greece founded by experienced guitarist Spiros Rizos (Evil King, Sinner Guard). “Hermetica Draconis” is the group’s new album and if neo-classical / melodic metal with an ’80s feeling is your thing, this is for you. Albums / bands in this particular sub-genre do not abound these days so this is a very pleasing ‘retro’ metal record with an updated production.
References in DARK LEGION’s sound & tyle should go to Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force to Helloween or Stratovarius, but the Greeks are more in vein of the former as the songs aren’t sympho / power infected but more hard rockin’, classic melodic metal oriented: powerful yet clean vocals, driving riffs, and stratopheric solos.
It’s very cool to hear bands still playing this neo-classical / melodic metal stuff with a classic hard rock touch, and DARK LEGION does it well.
