Melodic Hard Rockers CRIME reformed past year after more than two decades, releasing a solid comeback album via specialized 80s / 90s reissue label Metalapolis Records. Now the band and Metalapolis decided it was time for a proper reissue of CRIME two previous albums in remastered form. We already featured debut Hard Times, now it’s time for CRIME sophomore LP 1995’s ”No Cure”, originally self-released and hard to find.
The rocking music delivery of CRIME stands for great, unmistakable classy guitar riffs and hooks, with keyboard splashes and occasional AOR touches.
On ”No Cure” the band hardened their sound a bit, as heard from the start with the title track with a delivery between ’80s Deep Purple, ’90s Rainbow and Axel Rudi Pell. Next track ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ is pure early ’90s with a little funky hard rock swirl, and sharp rhythm guitars. The band’s early melodic hard rock sonics return for midtempo ‘Hey You!’, an optimistic tune with Von Groove / Fair Warning atmosphere.
On ‘Blues Symphony’ the band indeed adds a slow burn bluesy smoke, the darker ‘Daid’ adds acoustic to the mix, while ‘Shades of Blue’ rocks with a hard punch. ‘Break the Chains’ has very Nineties sound, ‘Bleeding’ is a metal ballad where guitars shine, whilst the broken tempo of closer ‘Sad Role’ is quite odd.
On “No Cure” Germans Crime slightly changed their sound to a more mature classic hard rock delivery, some ’90s variations, some melodic rock ditties. For decades a hard to find album, and while not essential, it’s nice to have the chance to hear this.
