As requested, here’s Tom Keifer’s CINDERELLA “Unreleased Tapes 1983-85“, released on CD by San Marino based bootleg label Loudworks. The set include demos of songs that later ended into Cinderella’s major label debut “Night Songs”, while many remain unreleased. As example, the track “Night Songs” is quite different than the final album take.Cinderella was formed in 1983 in Pennsylvania by singer-songwriter, keyboardist, and guitarist Tom Keifer and bassist Eric Brittingham. The initial line-up also included guitarist Michael Kelly Smith and drummer Tony Destra – both are part on these demos. In 1985, both Kelly Smith and Destra left to form Britny Fox.
Gene Simmons first took interest in the band and tried to get them a deal with PolyGram, but they were not interested. Jon Bon Jovi saw Cinderella perform at the Empire Rock Club in Philadelphia and talked to his A&R man, Derek Shulman about seeing the group. Shulman was not convinced at first either, and wanted to sign the band to a six-month development deal. “Unreleased Tapes 1983-85″ presents all that early era demos, including some that led to being signed.
Additionally, we find the very first Cinderella vinyl single ”Shake Me! / Nobody’s Fool”, the 1984 indie recording, released by themselves.
After extensive negotiations, Derek Shulman finally signed the band. In 1985, with a recording contract with Mercury / Polygram Records in the works, guitarist Jeff LaBar joined the band.
The rest is history > one of the best band’s ever from the ’80s U.S. hard rock explosion.
