Chris Thompson is ushering in the final round of his music career and in 2020 embarked on a big farewell tour with his Mads Eriksen Band for the last time: “The Final Round”. At the beginning of 2020, one of the last remaining veterans of “classic rock” announced his official departure from the music business: Chris Thompson, who achieved world fame with his distinctive voice and the hits of Manfred Mann's Earth Band, is retiring from live events. The Brit, who grew up in New Zealand, had set himself the goal of performing again in all the halls, clubs and festivals that have accompanied him over the last few years by his 75th birthday in March 2022, a tour that included about 100 concerts worldwide.
“Nowadays hardly anyone believes that it is really a band’s last tour. Unfortunately, the term “final tour” has become a marketing tool. In my case that is certainly not the case. “The “to do list” that needs to be completed after touring is still too big,” Chris Thompson assured at one of his concerts. And his list is long! Thompson is currently in the final stages of his first musical production. “The idea for the next work is already in the drawer. And “driving “Route 66” across America in an old convertible is one of the many private wishes of the self-confessed family man, which has had to be put on hold several times due to the amount of work.
