HUNTED hail from Wales, UK, they’ve started as a cover band but went to develop their own sound, influenced by such bands as IRON MAIDEN, BLIND GUARDIAN, SAXON, DIO, DREAM THEATER, ICED EARTH to name just few of the prominent ones. They also fuse some marks of Progressive into their sound, some thrash and power touches also, which makes for an interesting sound - at once classically Heavy Metal yet enhanced by embracing the other subgenres. They’ve released a demo EP ‘Alone’ before and tested themselves live in many venues. ‘Welcome The Dead’ is their first album, at first self-produced, but now under Massacre Records. The album has a very promising intro, and builds up with a great strength and the sequences of songs are well assembled. Some of the most remarkable tracks were ‘Aria (In Memoriam)’ - grand song opening with beautifully strummed and picked guitars with an acoustic sound that will come in and out during the song, bursting into the powerful melody, epic song with many layers, showing their fusion of the Metal genres truly well, even some Doom metal between its more audible / noticeable Progressive references.

Not to mention it shows of their musicianship in ample measure, the guitars squeeze in a lot of emotion, the vocals are to be commended throughout. ‘The Incident’ which is a sample track atmospherically introduces the next song, ‘Impaled’, the dramatic culminating song with a great narrative with an emotive story of child witnessing murder of his parents. It demonstrates a great use of communicating main and backing vocals as well as instruments for a nearly theatrical piece. The track is underlined by a manic drumming that gets your blood sufficiently boiling. ‘Shadows’ was yet another song that stood out for me, love the heavier, darker guitars, another emotively charged song. The closing of this album is served by a cover of NEVERMORE’s ‘The Heart Collector’ and a truly wonderful one it is! An impressive debut, it sounds already quite accomplished, and I’m sure we’ll hear even more about this band in future as their reputation and body of work will grow. I’ve enjoyed it beyond my anticipation and could only heartily recommend it.

01. Silence of Minds 1:19
02. Chosen 6:02
03. Aria (In Memoriam) 4:28
04. Impaled 8:48
05. The Incident 0:33
06. I Want Nothing 5:09
07. Scars 5:22
08. Shadows 5:37

Beyond the Bridge are a German Progressive Rock/Metal band who started in 1999 under the name of “Fallout”. The group seemed to face an early demise when all band members started to settle throughout Germanyto engage in their university studies and professional careers.

It wasn’t until 2005 that guitarist Peter Degenfeld-Schonburg decided to revive the band with a project he had entitled "The Old Man and the Spirit". For the next five years to come, he would spend innumerable hours together with keyboarder Christopher Tarnow to complete the songs and the story of this slowly evolving concept album. Christopher, who had also been part of the original line-up, got to know the brilliant producer Simon Oberender (a Sascha Paeth collaborator in the productions of Avantasia, Edguy, Epica or Kamelot among others). Simon in his turn brought drummer Fabian Maier and lead vocalist Herbie Langhans in the band. Together with bass player Dominik Stotzem, founder of the old school band and best friend to Peter and Christopher ever since, the line-up of Beyond the Bridge was almost completed. Last but not least, lead vocalist Dilenya Mar came to the band after Peter had been to a concert of hers singing classic Jazz tunes in Munich, Germany.

Besides their experience as rock musicians, all members of Beyond the Bridge are proud to be professionally trained musicians on their respective instruments.
The first studio recordings for "The Old Man and the Spirit" started in 2008 at Gate Studio, Wolfsburg, Germany. Nonetheless, it was a very long way until the completion of the album in 2011, and the band is very proud to finally release this piece of art with Frontiers Records in January 2012.
“The Old Man and the Spirit” deals with the polarity of human sensuousness and superhuman awareness. The latter is embodied by the character of the Spirit. She is the personification of all wisdom and awareness that is unachievable to mankind, however, lacks of the ability to feel.

Her opponent, the character of the Old Man, is presented as a bon vivant who has lived through all highs and lows of human sensation. Steadied by his old age, he searches for a sense, for a coherence, for the meaning of his life in the maelstrom of transiency.
As the story unfolds, the Spirit convinces the Old Man that there is no way for Man to overcome the limits of human perception. They can only be transgressed with the help of the Spirit's wisdom.
Aware of human curiosity, the Spirit offers to answer all of the Old Man's questions - in exchange for his experiences and feelings. A high price, as they are inseparably connected to the Old Man's memories.

The annually promoted Pink Floyd tribute tour will feature 'The British Pink Floyd Show' rather than 'The Australian Pink Floyd Show' from 2011 after the Australian tribute act parted company with their UK promoter CMP.

Every year The Australian Pink Floyd Show, or TAPFS as they are also known, have toured one of the most large-scale productions you will ever see from a tribute act. Annually thrilling Pink Floyd fans around the world with their lavish live shows, the act are reknown across the globe for their outstanding attempts at recreating the look, feel, and sound of Pink Floyd's later world tours. We understand The Australian Pink Floyd show will return to UK circuits in 2011 though.

Click Here to Compare & Buy The British Pink Floyd Show Tickets at Stereoboard.com.

In the meantime, The British Pink Floyd Show will be taking over the reigns for their UK promoter CMP Entertainment, stopping off at Floyd's native United Kingdom for an extensive 31-date tour in April and May as well as a few dates in July and August too. Although the tribute act on show is changing, we are assured that everything else will remain the same.

The promoters have decided to change the name of the group to represent the increasing number of British musicians. Chas Cole, former promoter for TAPFS, had this to say about the change. "In recent years TAPFS tours have featured primarily British musicians and its come to the point where a British show is more appropriate. CMP doesn't want to stretch the goodwill of Pink Floyd or the fans and therefore, now is a good time to change."

Rest assured though, that is the only change that is happening. Everything else about the new 'BritFloyd' tour will stay the same, including the outstanding sound quality, staggering light shows and animations.

The British Pink Floyd Show will play the following UK dates:
1. Show Intro
02. Shine On You Crazy Diamond
03. Learning To Fly
04. High Hopes
05. Welcome To The Machine
06. Mother

Crylord: Blood Of The Prophets

Heavy/Power Metal
3.5/5.0

Lion Music
Website MySpace
by Craig Hartranft,  10.03.2011

With little doubt, Boguslaw Balcerak can play guitar. Crylord is the project and platform for this versatile Polish guitarist who performs in the neo-classical tradition.Blood of the Prophets is his debut on Lion Music (well known for signing major new guitar talent). Besides several of Poland's finest musicians, Balcerak is supported on lead vocals by three men who are quite familiar with neo-classical inspired heavy metal: Carsten 'Lizard' Schulz, Goran Edman, and Marc Boals. Additionally, the album was produced by King Diamond guitarist Andy LaRocque.

Boguslaw BalcerakBalcerak and Crylord deliver solid melodic heavy and power metal driven by his fiery guitar work. Yet any axe slinger can rip up the fret board for a matter of record. But the real question is, can they do this in the context of well written songs? The answer for Balcerak and company is cautious affirmative. Blood of the Prophets, Grave of Love, Valley of the Dead, and Angel of Divine show inspiration beyond a clinic in guitar technique. Warrior's Moon or Behind the Walls of Sadness, maybe not so much. But Carsten Schulz steals the show on these anyway. However, for pure epic power metal and a double dose of fret angst, When the Time Has Come and The Healing Hands of Destruction offer a reasonable balance between guitar technique and song composition.

(Above right: Boguslaw Balcerak looking much too serious.)

Fundamentally, however, enjoying Boguslaw Balcerak's Crylord and Blood Of The Prophets likely depends on your interest and/or tolerance for neo-classical guitar technique. There's plenty of widdling and wiggling across the fret board here, and arpeggios abound. In the end, all this review stands on that opening sentence.

1. Ante Bellum Overture (Intro) (1:50)
2. Blood of the Prophets (5:58)

It’s hard for me on a personal level to get into bands that I don’t already love nowadays. The itching for more music from my favorite bands triumphs scouring the interweb for a new band that will probably get a couple listens. There are very few new bands I’ve discovered in the past year or so that are getting frequent listens, so when I stumbled upon guitar wizard Paul Wardingham (whose career is seemingly nonexistent in the big picture) and his solo project going by the same name, I had zero intentions on expecting his debut, Assimilate Regenerate, to be good beyond a couple listens. Especially for a shreddy instrumental album. Lo and behold, here I am listening to it on repeat. All 60 minutes of it.

If a giant correlation could be drawn to one band in the music industry, it would be melo-death giants Scar Symmetry, mostly their Holographic Universe release. The inspiration and similarity is clear as day here: futuristic synths, chunky death metal riffs rotating between soaring cosmic leads/solos and varying levels of aggression, harmony and chaos. The difference here is that Paul Wardingham doesn’t need vocals as a fallback for sub par musicianship or blazing fret masturbation to mend abysmal writing. All the mechanical skill is here in its purest form, ready to be digested for many, many listens. Toss all cheap gimmicks out the window as well becauseAssimilate Regenerate uses its well-placed synths (though sounding sometimes like a direct copy of Holographic Universe‘s synths) to add depth and character to each song, further evoking the style and theme of the album, rather than a cover up for sloppy or unimpressive playing.
