The idea of making a musical transposition of the famous Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" was conceived by Fabio Zuffanti years ago in 1995, but soon abandoned until today, right after the release of the four chapters of the successful "Seasoncyle" tetralogy about the four seasons. Zuffanti, eminent personality of today's Italian Prog scene, and worldwide acclaimed thanks to his various projects such as Höstsonaten, Finisterre and La Maschera di Cera, has now concluded the first in a series of two volumes dedicated to the "Rime...". The first CD contains the first four parts of the opus, while the second three parts will end on a second album which will be released in 2013. The music is, if possible, more symphonic, theatrical and majestic than ever, with touches of celtic music, hard/new-prog and much more, developed in five long compositions. The vocal duties rely on five different vocalists, with the aim to explore, interpret and give the listener the emotions of the dark and dreamy poem by Coleridge. Fabio Zuffanti's guests in this new adventure are Maurizio Di Tollo (drums), Luca Scherani (keyboards), Matteo Nahum (guitars), Edmondo Romano (sax, bagpipe), Sylvia Trabucco (violin) and Joanne Roan (flute), while Alessandro Corvaglia (La Maschera Di Cera), Carlo Carnevali, Davide Merletto (Daedalus), Mar

THE NEXT HUNDRED YEARS – TROPPO 2012
Apr 25, 2012 18:09
Progressive Rock
is one band that takes post-apocalyptic rock to new levels. With energy-driven riffs and serious stage presence, they are crafting a distinct and impressively mature sound for BC’s alternative independent scene.
The 5 piece collective hails from Vancouver, a city steeped in post-rock sound, and brings a real talent for writing songs that display each individual’s artistic merit.
Self-described as a combination of “robot rock rhythms and riffs of Queens of the Stone Age, the alt-rock/hardcore of Fugazi, the prog-metal leanings of Tool, the sparse, accessible arrangements of early U2, and those tell-tale “post-rock” chords commonly associated with Isis,” The Next Hundred Years really do have their own sound ; one that's gaining momentum.
Ever since being selected as the Fox Band of the Month on BC’s Home of Independent Music, the band has received airplay and was invited to showcase at The Roxy, to the delight of their steadily growing fan base.

Paradigm Shift have been playing their brand of Hindi prog since 2008, and have played a few gigs around Mumbai and the rest of the country (including Springspree 2012 at IIT Warangal with Xerath).
We spoke to the producer of the album, Vishal J. Singh (of Amogh Symphony), who described his experience of working with Paradigm Shift
Coalescence is an album where each song is a different story in itself. A lot of work has gone into the production of this album with respect to discovering a sound that will go on to represent and define the band in the future. I am proud to be a part of this journey with the band and the whole experience of working on this album was a great experience with these fun-loving guys. I hope listeners will have fun listening to this record as much as we had while making it.
The band will formally launch the album at Blue Frog, Mumbai on Sunday, May 27. Check out the tracklist, cover art and stream their song ‘Khwabon Mein Teri’ below.

For Immediate Release
Flower Kings Vocalist Hasse Fröberg & Musical Companion Second Album ‘Powerplay’ Now Available
4/5/2012 – Sweden – The progressive rock community around the world is on fire about legendary Flower Kings vocalist Hasse Fröberg and his group Musical Companion new album ‘Powerplay’. Available on Reingold Records on April 23, ‘Powerplay’ is the second album by Swedish progrockers Hasse Fröberg & Musical Companion. About a year after the release of their critically highly acclaimed debut ‘Future Past’ (Sept. 2010), the band entered the studio to cut the backing tracks for ‘Powerplay’ (April 2012). This time around, HFMC provides even harder hitting progressive rock – a must for fans of Rush, The Flower Kings and YES!
” ‘Powerpay’ is more wild and crazy than ‘Future Past’, ” Hasse explains. “Still, the melodies are in focus and we’re still the same guys in the band, so you’ll definitely recognize our sound. Some of the lyrics are by far the most personal I have written, while others reflect the world around us. At least the way I see it.”
Hasse Fröberg & Musical Companion:
Hasse Fröberg: Lead vocals, rhythm guitar
Anton Lindsjö: Lead guitar, backing vocals
Kjell Haraldsson: Keyboards, backing vocals
Thomsson: Bass, backing vocals
Ola Strandberg: Drums, backing vocals
The debut CD generated gigs in countries such as Sweden, Norway, Germany, Holland and Belgium. With the release of ‘Powerplay’, the band is now confirmed for festivals (“RoSfest”, Gettysburg in USA and “Night of the prog”, Loreley in Germany) as well as gigs on both sides of the Atlantic.
As sound engineer on ‘Powerplay’, the band has chosen to work with Tomas Bodin. He’s a collegue with Hasse in the established and influential prog band The Flower Kings. The collaboration proved to work out just fine and even if Hasse likes to be in the studio, he prefers the live scene: “Playing live is definitely the right element for us. I really can’t wait to take The Musical Companion and and the songs on ‘Powerplay’ on the road”.

"Saiko" is the sixth full-length studio album by Quidam. It contains that unique kind of music which takes time to make its listeners fall in love with each and every sound. More than ever before, the musicians put strong emphasis on creating specific atmosphere on their latest release. The lack of elaborate compositions and minimalistic approach only intensifies the meaning of each sound.

STEAMING SATELLITES – THE MUSTACHE MOZART AFFAIRE (2012)
Apr 23, 2012 19:34
Progressive Rock
Difficult to understand what these five guys from Salzburg or anything before. Are you planning to invent a kind of intergalactic spaceship constructed from parts of their beloved vintage instruments? What fuel do they use? Worn Underwear? Can it work?Maybe they do not need a spaceship to reach the cosmos? Where possible, they spent their last summer holiday there already. Who knows? Your music on, it seems, as if they were returned to Earth to take on new adventures to combine the cosmic energies and to ground them.
They invite us to become a part of their world by attending their concerts and listen to their records. "The Mustache Mozart affair," her latest album, a log book, written from the depths of her soul. It affects us deeply in our hearts and in the face. Honestly, profoundly emotional, straight ahead. You have it, the leaden weight of Led Zeppelin, the spherical range of Pink Floyd and the significance of Bob Dylan, through all this, combined with electronic parts and excessive synth sounds, they are what they are given: a modern alternative rock band knows it, is to remember the past, to show her the proper respect and honor them. You could always recognize something special to their live performance, a unique energy between the band and the audience, which is constantly increasing and at the end of each concert at Jam escapades discharges. It is their stated ambition, passion and dedication to music, share it with all the people out there.
This certainly was well acquainted with "Portugal The Man" into existence, which they shared after a show, just took along on their subsequent tour of Europe, 2008. The following year she toured with bands such as The Builders And The Butchers, Eagle Seagull, Hello Electric, and played support shows for Thin Lizzy, Monster Magnet, International Noise Conspiracy, Therapy?, Oceansize, The Ravonettes, Kashmir and many more.
