Azure Agony was started in 2006 by an idea of Marco Sgubin, keyboard player. Afterwards, Gabriele Pala (ex-Karnak) on guitar, Marco Firman on bass and Carlo Simeoni on drums joined him.
This line-up wrote and recorded the 9 songs of the first album, entitled Beyond Belief. They decided to avoid having a voice and be instrumental since they didn't find a suitable singer capable of accepting
