Airplay - Airplay (Japanese Edition)
Airplay was a short-lived American band, formed by David Foster and Jay Graydon. The band released a self-titled album in 1980, containing "Nothin' You Can Do About It" (later recorded by Manhattan Transfer) and a cover of the Earth, Wind & Fire hit "After the Love Has Gone", written by Foster and Graydon with Bill Champlin. 0_f8925_65b08f00_LBeing a tennis fan, I automatically attribute 'grand slam' with the sport's crowning achievement rather than music. In this case though, Grand Slam are melodic rock crooners hailing from Sweden that released an EP entitled Waiting For Tomorrow in 2014. They recently signed a distribution deal with German label AOR Heaven for their upcoming full-length, which is scheduled for release sometime this fall. From what I understand, this three song EP is a precursor of what is to come from their impending debut later this year.

Flying Mercury were formed in autumn of 2011 by Michael Tampou (Keys) and John Kalivas(vocals) having the vision to gather fellow musicians that share the same passion for Hard Rock and Classic Rock, mainly70’s -80’s style but with also references to AOR and fresh notes from the Scandinavian Hard Rock scene. What If 2000 (1987) frontBRILLIANT 10/10. This can only be best described as heavied up West Coast, somewhere between Mr Mister, Tim Feehan and latter-day Richard Marx. The fluid guitar of Landau and the impressive vocals of Funderburk tips the scales in my favor though the overly laden brass parps from Larry Williams keyboards do tend to get slightly overbearing at times. However, for the most part it's stylish AOR/melodic rock.

Cool name, ho-hum music. Poley is loved by melodic rockers for his days with Danger Danger, but this CD sounds like it was penned & performed by a man whose heart wasn't into it. Nobody will consider this to be up to the standards Ted set with D2, nor will too many folks say it is anything more than average. Poor production & low-energy songs hurt this release. You won't hate yourself for buying it, but neither are you going to immediately run to the phone to tell all your friends about it...
