At the turn of the 80-90s BBC Radio BBC conducted a survey of listeners to find out the names of the best modern guitarists. As a result, Walter Trout entered the Top -10, along with Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and was called "guitar hero".

There is no doubt that Walter Trout and his band The Radicals now ranks among the world's leading performers of blues-rock and contemporary blues.

The Twisted Sister frontman is no stranger to Broadway, having performed in Rock Of Ages onstage back in 2010. Still, the last thing you’d expect to hear Dee Snider singing are songs like “Big Spender” or “Luck Be A Lady.” Yet that’s exactly what he did withDee Does Broadway, an album full of Broadway covers sung by Snider himself.

Of course, there have been some great rock operas/ musicals to grace Broadway. However, Snider purposefully chose not to sing songs from a few obvious titles, saying:

“Over the past year I have worked closely with my team and collaborators picking from decades of musical hits with only two rules: The song had to speak to me as a singer on some level, and it could not be a rock song to begin with. No Jesus Christ Superstar, Grease, Hair, Rent, Rocky Horror, etc.  What would be the challenge in that? There are many who think doing an album of rocked out show tunes is pure insanity on my part. Apparently, they haven’t seen any photos of me from the 70’s and 80’s.  Could I have been in a more theatrical band? Ever since I was a kid, I’d heard the real power inherent in a lot of songs from musicals and this record gives me the chance to show it.”

Dee Does Broadway features Snider singing songs from musicals like Cabaret, Chicago,West Side Story, South Pacific, Guys And Dolls and many others. As if that wasn’t odd enough, though, the album also features guest appearances from the likes of Cyndi Lauper, Clay Aiken, Bebe Neuwirth, Patti LuPone, and many others. While we can’t blame Snider for doing something he’s always wanted to do, it’s still a little hard to imagine him in the studio recording rock versions of musical hits. Then again, we’ve gotten use to the idea of Twisted Sister recording Christmas songs.

The album comes out on May 8 via Razor & Tie, which coincides with the release of his autobiography Shut Up and Give Me The Mic. However, Snider’s rendition of the song “Cabaret” has been made available for stream and can be heard after the jump.

ill is a three-piece American rock band based in Atlanta, Georgia.
They started playing together in 2005 as part of a well-established Atlanta band that signed to Universal Records in 2007.
Finding the major label experience creatively restrictive, the three musicians opted out in 2009 and started writing the songs that would soon establish, ill. They released their first independent album, Down in Deep later that summer.
Having spent much of the previous two years on the road, including a tour supporting one of their favorite live bands, Fishbone, ill immediately started booking shows up and down the eastern United States. As the live show progressed, it became apparent that a new album was in order that better captured the sound and the attitude of ill onstage. They started writing in the spring of 2010, during which time guitarist-vocalist, Ryan Waters got called to rejoin the legendary UK soul band, Sade to tour in support of their new album. Ryan started working with Sade in 2000 and was happy to be back, but also wanted to continue creating with ill.
The trio carried on writing and recording during breaks in Sade's schedule and, in the summer of 2011, completed an album entitled, Gotten Gains.
With the help of friends in a favorite Atlanta band, Sun Domingo, the album caught the attention of Dutch record label, Glassville Records and is scheduled for a March 2012 release. The album will include a cover of the Sade classic, Pearls.
The members of ill, Damion Goodpaster (Synth, Piano, and Vocals), Marlon Patton (Drums), and Ryan Waters (Guitar and Vocals) describe their sound as, "Big blues riffs done with a punk attitude and very much rooted in soul. To us, the lines of classification between Ray Charles and Black Sabbath are very blurry".
Their recordings have drawn comparisons to such bands as Soundgarden, Queens of the Stone Age, Kings X and Stone Temple Pilots while the live show was described by one reviewer as "...a stripped down, Hendrix-inspired blues guitar power trio with the sonic ambition of Nine Inch Nails".
ill is looking forward to promoting, Gotten Gains with live shows throughout 2012.

American guitarist Vinnie Vincent in the early '80s he worked with megazvezdnoy group KISS and recorded two albums with them - Creatures Of The Night (1982) and Lick It Up (1983), not counting compilations. This was followed by his band Vinnie Vincent Invasion, zapisavshayu two full-disk (there was another EP in 1996, and then he disappeared for a long time out of sight). Their music is sung - a great energetic hard in the best traditions of the genre.
