It's not too often that you'll see "recommended if you like Iron Maiden, Bullet For My Valentine, and As I Lay Dying" when talking about one specific band, but that's exactly what happened when I received the press sheet for Affiance's sophomore album, The Campaign. With nearly two years between the band's previous release entitled No Secrets Revealed and the forthcoming The Campaign, expectations seem to be fairly high amongst fans of the band. Two years is quite a while between albums, but I'm glad that Affiance took their time with this album because it shows that they wanted to improve and not release a half-assed album just to silence their pleading fans. The Campaign has a release date of November 13th through Bullet Tooth Records.

Yep, that’s her real name.
OK, it’s her first and middle name, but one should take fortune where they find it. Those who might find sacrilege in this invocation of a sainted handle can rest assured that it’s in good hands. In this case, a young (born 1992) woman who more than personifies a great and grand American tradition. More»

A delightfully sleazy low-fi trio of numbers is displayed on the self-titled debut EP from Chicago's Stone Cold Outlaw.
The band's been gradually building up a profile and have been picked up as openers by the likes of Tracii Guns' League of Gentlemen as well as appearing at the Rock 'N' The Valley Festival alongside Warrant and Skid Row. They were also featured at Chicago's Rocklahoma launch party at The Double Door, co-headlining with fellow 'Windy City' rockers Hessler.
"Excess" slices this EP wide open with Mark Shred's razor like riff over the punky rasp of Polish lead vocalist Karina Sunqueen, who's out on the town 'being your fantasy, shots of whiskey and getting frisky' -- not a great rhyme to be sure but trust me, it works.

Four years have pulled back since the last Alkbottle CD into the country. Four years in which not only gone our world economy multiple times or completely to the dogs, as well as four years in which Christian Zitta (git) has come to the following realization: "I've now even the last year due to be heard and I think we can do better. This is a really good release from a small town Swedish band. A band that quit just the other day.
I don’t have the details about the breakup so I won’t comment on that. “Punishment Day” on the other hand, has been in my ears a few hours now. It’s a solid album packed with riffing, tight drumming and super-evil vocals. Sound-wise there’s nothing to complain about: the mix is clean but heavy. Style-wise I ended up thinking that this is some kind of Meshuggah turned heavy metal turned death metal. Don’t get too hung up on that simile though.

Preachers, the sophomore release from Austin's My Jerusalem has the rather dark and sinister theme going on in the background. Founder and singer Jeff Klein (ex-Gutter Twins, The Twilight Singers) describes it as the Post-Modern Southern Gothic Soul album surrounded by beautiful, comforting, darkness. It's real, not selfish, according to the mad hatter and Klein's baritone vocals are ever so moody and emotionally black.
There's much to like about this little band from the boondocks of Idyllwild, California. Throw The Goat offers a blend of punk, stoner, and heavy rock in a rather intriguing package with Black Mountain. It's like a mash up of Ramones, Motorhead, and maybe some Kyuss. But, ultimately, I think Throw The Goat simply wants to be a good rock band. Their take may be on the heavy, sometimes stoner, side, but they delivers some deep rockin' grooves. You get this at the start with Southeast Bound, but also later on Predictable, I
