Following the triumphant success of their 50th Anniversary celebration, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT is gearing up for the release of the eagerly anticipated “50th Anniversary Live – Second Night“, via Frontiers Music. This electrifying performance, which includes the band’s second album “Tyranny and Mutation” performed back-to-back set to hit the shelves on August 9, 2024, is a great follow-up to the band’s historic three-night stint at Sony Hall in NYC.
In September 2022, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT enthralled fans with a unique trilogy of sold-out shows, each dedicated to one of their first three albums. Founding member Albert Bouchard made a special appearance on all three nights, adding a
nostalgic touch to the historic milestone.
For nearly three hours each night, the band delivered a spellbinding set weaving through the entirety of their classic initial trilogy of albums and treating fans to a mix of fan favorites, deep cuts, and classic hits. The atmosphere was electric, and this recording captured the magic.
This 21-track ‘Second Night’ showcases staples of a timeless, seminal catalogue, “The Red & The Black,” “O.D.’d On Life Itself”, “7 Screaming Diz-Busters”, along with (perhaps) less celebrated workouts such as the organ pumping “Teen Archer”, and the sublime “Wings Wetted Down”.
The rousing, expert second set boasts the likes of “Perfect Water”, “The Revenge Of Vera Gemini”, “Unknown Tongue”, “Tattoo Vampire”, and the ubiquitous but always transformative “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” (“Reaper” features on First and Second Night, with other “doubles” being “Box In My Head”, “Burnin’ For You”, “That Was Me” and “Godzilla”.
For some, this ain’t the summer of love, and this ain’t BOC, really? But Eric Bloom and Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser are present and correct, with Albert Bouchard contributing all three nights (Albert is still guesting, ghosting and questing, carrying the torch of Imaginos).
With BOC, you must be willing to enter a world of codes, symbols and cyphers. It’s all about necromancy, Nosferatu and symbolism.
