These dudes from Black-Bone have got their shit together. As they started five years ago they were between twelve and fifteen years old. And now, five years later, they can already look back at an impressive list of gigs in clubs, at festivals and as opening act for bands like Deep Purple, Chickenfoot and Slash. With all these experiences, a big dose of will and with producer Oscar Holleman they went into the studio the other day. The result of that is this first full length and it sounds like Black-Bone has done nothing else then playing dirty rock ‘n roll for ages.
Rock of ages is a good key word for ‘Back To Mayhem’. If you listen to this album you can hear AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Motorhead and Guns N’ Roses, but also Peter Pan Speedrock and the Backyard Babies, to name only a few. During ‘Hard Times’ and the title track Black-Bone builds up a lot of tension between laid back rock and full power. Speedy rock ’n roll can be heard via ‘Hammer Down’, mid tempo rockers are present via ‘Girls Best Friend’ and if you use a little imagination you can hear Motley Crue playing at the Sunset Strip in songs such as ‘Crash Helmet’ and ‘Hollywood &Vine’.
‘Back To Mayhem’ is a strong album. Black-Bone plays with passion, they sound hungry, they combine different styles together and keep it short. I can recommend this album (from Dutch ground!) to everyone who isn’t afraid of some explosive rock ’n roll.
