Few days ago we featured the debut album from BACK STREET CRAWLER, founded by guitarist Paul Kossoff. Kossoff was, of course, the guitarist in seminal British rock band Free and his fluid, soulful guitar fuelled the albums they made for the Island label.

Some of you asked for the group’s second LP “2nd Street” also reissued by Wounded Bird Records specialists. The album is regarded as a considerable advance on their 1975 debut The Band Plays On, more dynamic, with refined arrangements. This happen to be the last BACK STREET CRAWLER album because Kossoff passed away March 1976 same year, and “2nd Street” released in April, and is dedicated to him.
Paul was a not only a great talent, he was also a troubled soul, gentle at times and fiery at others. His lack of height and his red hair made him more volatile than others, with drug troubles in the middle. Back Street Crawler was his attempt to regain what he’d lost since the demise of Free in 1973, and he did it.
