Steve Cone is a New York native and has been a member of several prominent bands in his years of making music. After relocating to the desert, Cone built a studio and started writing his own brand of metal, forged in the classic European tradition of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal legends such as Iron Maiden, Saxon but also Accept and Motorhead to name but a few.
His mix or heavy metal/ progressive hard rock is tempered with his own street-smart style picked up from his days of playing the dark, seedy clubs of New York City. The results have been nothing short of impressive with each Cone release topping its predecessor with intelligent yet wild songs about power, betrayal, and the various dark places in our minds.

Australia's Taipan originally formed way back in 1979, after a few EP's and demo's the band disbanded all the way to around 2006/7 and are now on the fourth of the reunion releases. METAL MACHINE is a collection of straight cut Heavy Metal, no-frills although boasting youthful energy that would belie the band's age. Everything across the album has a decidedly ´classic` type of feel, from the riffs to the solos this is all by the book which was started in the seventies and fleshed out over the eighties. Fans who love no-bullshit Heavy Metal should be able to happily bob their head throughout the duration of METAL MACHINE.

Great band from Canada ... Support Band HERE
Definitely in the "symphonic prog" category. Remind me of Eloy, Camel and Rush...maybe even Acqua Fragile a bit. They have just released their first self titled CD in 2013. 3 tracks in the 15 minute category...another that is 7 minutes in length and a shorter one at 5 mnutes. The track "Social Engineering" is very impressive. Recurring themes, great guitars and keyboards. A fine prog rock suite.

Syron Vanes – Evil Redux (2013)

To begin with, SYRON VANES was never a British band. They just released their first couple of albums – back in the 80s – via the NWOBHM related Ebony Records, hence the misunderstanding. The Swedish group assembled by guitarist Anders Hahne back in 1980 released two more CDs in the 00s so they herein reviewed disc proudly is their fifth effort overall. And the question is what shall we expect from such an old band now, some 25-30 years later after their classic heyday?
