Back in the 80's CHINA were one of the most popular Hard Rock-Bands coming from Switzerland. Their album "Sign In The Sky" even entered the German album charts. Due to countless line-up changes the band couldn't keep that high level and called it a day a few years later. After the comeback last year, the guys now deliver a new best of-CD. The compilation contains 13 classic tracks plus the 3 brand new songs "Girl On My Screen", "Stay" and "Trapped In The City".

Melodic Rock | AOR

By looking at the cover and name of the band, you'd think this was some death metal BUT it's actually great AOR. This central Illinois band plays nice guitar/keyboard driven AOR/melodic hard rock in the vein of RUSCHA and LOST & FOUND. The vocalist reminds me of DENNIS DE YOUNG a lot. The production is decent sounding and the musicianship is good. If you ever get a chance to pick it up....by all means, do so!

Opener 'Let It Shine' radiates with gospel feel-good rock n roll while 'Beautiful Smile' roars with hard rock urgency. Lead single 'Labour Of Life' is a fast paced pop anthem which shows the band's ability to cross over with stunning pop sensibilities. Title track 'Frantic' is a slower number filled with full string section which compliment Dante Gizzi's haunting vocals. 'Frantic' is filled with no fillers, power, energy, and is refined and rough at the same time.

Baba Yaga – Baba Yaga 1992

Rock

Mixing genres difficult now to surprise. Many projects built on a combination of jazz and rock, rock and folk, ethnic and Psychedelics, etc., but this group has managed to connect the unconnected in harmonious fun. In 1992, the light appears the album "Baba Yaga". Very familiar motifs native Russian melodies blend harmoniously with the classic British and Irish rock, creating a unique style. In this album I want to note the very "juicy" arrangement of Russian folk song "Oy to the Internet ...". The track is called "So Ends Another Day" and truly is a great masterpiece of the group.

Middle, end of the 80 sent Mike Varney almost every week a new Guitar Hero into the race.
In the beginning it was still fascinated what people like Jason Becker, Tony MacAlpine, Vinne Moore and Marty Friedman drew from their six strings, but at some point the market predominantly instrumental albums was just oversaturated. More»
