As the metal community continues the slow journey up it’s own ass, one noticeable side effect has been the shunning of any and all bands that have achieved even a minimal amount of success and/or popularity. The inverse is also true—headbangers have been known to glorify bands that are ridiculously obscure, in the hopes of sounding more knowledgeable and “underground” than the next guy. The obvious endgame of this scenario would be a band that literally no one has heard of. Well, Pure Underground Records has got you covered, with the release of The Vision a 1989 demo/EP by Sacred Heart.

now!Super!

"The phone rang and on the other side of the handset, it was a band from sölvesborgwho wanted to book two weekends to record an album. Coming from (Sweden Rock Festival's hometown) and book a total of 40 hours for an album is probably the most daring thing I've been through in my life. they ignored my suggestion to book 4 weekends entirely, and we rigged up and ran. Said and done, 40 hours and a couple of beers later, they packed up their stuff in a car and drove home. they havecompletely completely disproved and shown me the other Pro-Tools copy / paste world how you should lira real rock n roll. specifically - Heavyweight Rock n Roll. Rig up and run!the result is amazing good! While listening to the debut album recorded by the American progressive rock band Gekko Project, the British band Camel immediately crossed my mind and especially the albums Raindances (1977) and Breathless (1978). On these albums Camel made a mixture of progressive rock with elements of jazz-rock and fusion. The same kind of influences is noticeable on Electric Forest.

As a music reviewer, I am lucky enough to be in a situation where bands, artists and record labels alike actually care about, and want to know what I think if their music. This puts me in a great spot where I am constantly flooded with new music to listen to and get to discover a lot of up and coming talent that most people haven’t heard of yet for one reason or another. Okay, so I get stuck listening to some crappy stuff sometimes, but every now and then I get to hear something really great too. I must admit though, It’s been a long time since I’ve been genuinely excited about hearing a band for the first time. You know that kind of excited when you hear something and you immediately know it’s one of the best things you’ve ever heard? Yeah, well that’s exactly what happened to me when I first listened to TO HIDE HER, the first full-length album release from Melbourne-based art rock group TOE HIDER.

The Scottish heavy metal scene is well known for being heavy as hell – bringing the world some of the finest death metal and grindcore bands around. From Cerebral Bore to Achren the musical calibre from Scottish musicians is superb, and it only seems fitting to introduce who break free of this typical scene and go for a more traditional approach to metal. Presenting Ascension, a melodic power metal band from Aberdeen who has so much flare and style in their music, they give the likes of Power Quest, Freedom Call and Blind Guardian a run for their money. By combining lightning fast guitar riffs, powerful melodies and superb, sing along chorus’s, Ascension have created one of the finest power metal albums of the past ten years with Far Beyond the Stars, and hopefully we will see the eventual rise to power of this Scottish five piece within the next few years!

Hangfire's claim to fame  if you will  is that former Tigertailz drummer Matt Blakout is a member of the band. Although if you are looking for the type of outrageous glam that Tigertailz are known for you are going to be extremely disappointed with Shoot The Crow. If anything, Hangfire is closer to the post-grunge sound that helped destroy the careers of countless '80s glam bands -- Tigertailz included.

Guitar legend Carlos Santana has enjoyed a tremendous resurgence in popularity and cultivated a new generation of fans over the past couple of decades via his collaborations with the biggest names in pop music. He made a huge impact in 1999 with Supernatural, which featured the multiple Grammy-winning hit “Smooth” with vocalist Rob Thomas, and other guest appearances by the likes of Eric Clapton and Dave Matthews. Santana’s three subsequent releases have followed that winning formula and focused on vocal-driven numbers with a star-studded cast including Michelle Branch, Steven Tyler, Chris Cornell, India.Arie, and Nas, among many others. But while these outings have cast him as a pop culture icon, his die-hard guitar fans longed for some new incarnations of what they consider “classic” Santana—the guy that kicks ass on the 6-string.

This 5-piece hard rock band theFALLEN from York have already impressed HTF with their live presence a few years back on their tour with Heaven’s Basement, and with their brand new album being released earlier this week, we’re itching to find out whether they can do the same on CD.

‘Ignite The Fire’ kicks off the album to a spookily climatic start, with the use of electronics and synthesisers to create an album battlefield-like primer, shortly followed by the heavy double bass and thudding guitars.

Then ‘Judgement Day’ begins, and the wild 80?s sounding guitars kick in, with its melodic riffs and the crash of the drum setting the ultimate party mood. Vocalist Johnny Fallen adds a mixture of Jettblack, Heaven’s Basement and The Treatment influences to the band. With a tad of Avenged Sevenfold in there to top it all off. With the reckless guitars and raunchy baselines, it’s hard not to like this album.
