XII ALFONSO's "The Lost Frontier" is a great first album with an ambitious concept. These young musicians from Bordeaux (France) have built a superb work with long instrumental passages, some female vocals, and a Celtic-influenced atmosphere sometimes reminding of Mike OLDFIELD. "Odyssees" is the second album in 1999, presenting the same sort of beautiful and majestuous music that could have been heard three years ago.

"Claude Monet Vol. 1" is the first delivery of a trilogy dedicated to the last years of the french impressionist painter's Claude Monet life, for the French group XII ALFONSO. This first one surrenders it occupies from the years 1883 to 1889. The relative influences to progressive bands that are appreciated in the album, I believe that they would come mainly from French formations as VITAL MINIMUM or Jean Pascal BOFFO, besides others as Mike OLDFIELD and Steve HACKETT. Those that have not been satisfied with XII ALFONSO's first two albums, they can prove with this third that sincerely I believe that it is a great disk.

The idea of making a musical transposition of the famous Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" was conceived by Fabio Zuffanti years ago in 1995, but soon abandoned until today, right after the release of the four chapters of the successful "Seasoncyle" tetralogy about the four seasons. Zuffanti, eminent personality of today's Italian Prog scene, and worldwide acclaimed thanks to his various projects such as Höstsonaten, Finisterre and La Maschera di Cera, has now concluded the first in a series of two volumes dedicated to the "Rime...". The first CD contains the first four parts of the opus, while the second three parts will end on a second album which will be released in 2013. The music is, if possible, more symphonic, theatrical and majestic than ever, with touches of celtic music, hard/new-prog and much more, developed in five long compositions. The vocal duties rely on five different vocalists, with the aim to explore, interpret and give the listener the emotions of the dark and dreamy poem by Coleridge. Fabio Zuffanti's guests in this new adventure are Maurizio Di Tollo (drums), Luca Scherani (keyboards), Matteo Nahum (guitars), Edmondo Romano (sax, bagpipe), Sylvia Trabucco (violin) and Joanne Roan (flute), while Alessandro Corvaglia (La Maschera Di Cera), Carlo Carnevali, Davide Merletto (Daedalus), Mar

For fans of Nevermore, Karnivool, Pantera, Tool and Devin Townsend

is one band that takes post-apocalyptic rock to new levels. With energy-driven riffs and serious stage presence, they are crafting a distinct and impressively mature sound for BC’s alternative independent scene.
The 5 piece collective hails from Vancouver, a city steeped in post-rock sound, and brings a real talent for writing songs that display each individual’s artistic merit.

Self-described as a combination of “robot rock rhythms and riffs of Queens of the Stone Age, the alt-rock/hardcore of Fugazi, the prog-metal leanings of Tool, the sparse, accessible arrangements of early U2, and those tell-tale “post-rock” chords commonly associated with Isis,” The Next Hundred Years really do have their own sound ; one that's gaining momentum.

Ever since being selected as the Fox Band of the Month on BC’s Home of Independent Music, the band has received airplay and was invited to showcase at The Roxy, to the delight of their steadily growing fan base.

Portuguese gothic metallers MOONSPELL will release their new album,"Alpha Noir", on April 27 via the band's new label home, Napalm Records.

The cover artwork for the CD — an intricate, marvellous and symbolic creation by Seth Siro Anton, the Greek artist who collaborated with the band on "Night Eternal" — can be seen below. Also available is a preview image of the strictly limited edition "Alpha Noir" deluxe box set containing the limited-edition double album mediabook, including two album covers, and "Alpha Noir"'s counterpart "Omega White" and an exclusiveMOONSPELL logo pendant.

"Alpha Noir" deluxe box set track listing:

CD 1

01. Axis Mundi
02. Lickanthrope
03. Versus
04. Alpha Noir
05. En Nome Do Medo
06. Opera Carne
07. Love is Blasphemy
08. Grand Stand
09. Sine Missione

CD 2

01. White Omega
02. White Skies
03. Fireseason
04. New Tears Eve
05. Herodisiac
06. Incantatrix
07. Sacrificial
08. A Greater Darkness

Commented MOONSPELL frontman Fernando Ribeiro: "A true band has to have to a glorious past, a solid present and a bright future. More than that, a true band has to know how to live throughout all these seasons, dealing with their ghosts, their shadows, their aim at the light, moulding darkness with personality, with the impulse to be better, to do better while getting close to theirselves. Their true heart, soul and flesh.

"Never a MOONSPELL album came so close to be absolute like the new opus magna (masterpiece) 'Alpha Noir', scheduled to be proudly released by Napalm Records on April 27th, when spring racks through the wastes of winter, bursting new colours over familiar sights, once silent and white, now fiery under the blackest of suns.

"The concept of this new record, painstakingly composed by the Portuguese gothic metal knights over the past three years, after the public and critically acclaimed 'Night Eternal', is bulletproof. The band managed to split their heart and soul in half and the result is that they came even closer to themselves, the ambitious band they always were, with a undying wish not to claim any throne but to build their own ships that would take them and their fans to 'give new worlds to the world,' like in the age of discovery where the Portuguese were a leading force in the world.

"With their country drowned in a corrosive crisis, MOONSPELL filled their lungs with pride and created an incendiary album, with nine outbursts of their rockiest and thrashier riffs made superiorly dimensioned by the reindivictative lyrical content and songs structure that take you by storm from the first listen on. MOONSPELL has tapped a notch into their energy filled gothic metal by adding a guitar wall forjed by timeless artists likeBATHORYKING DIAMOND or in a twist ofthe knive to old thrash metal legends like ONSLAUGHTMETALLICA early works or even TESTAMENTand ARTILLERY, making 'Alpha Noir' a truly surpring and fresh record where all the songs have a climax effect about them, an high tension charm that will for sure electricize audiences when played on a stage.

"Songs like the title track ('Alpha Noir'), the infectious 'Versus', the wolf hymn 'Lickanthrope' or the Portuguese sung 'Em Nome Do Medo' (In The Name Of Fear) and the closing epic 'Grandstand', might get you a welcoming chilling of the past but make no mistake: 'Alpha Noir' is a leap of faith and belief in their writing skills and progressive musicianship.

"Together with 'Alpha Noir' packed in a deluxe and special edition on digipack, MOONSPELL and Napalm offers no live DVD, making-of or any kind of filler. Instead they put in the table another offerend: 'Ómega White', the musical twin of 'Alpha Noir', a collection of eight songs of pure atmosphere and shadow, close to their breakthrough album'Irreligious', in a just homage to their TYPE O NEGATIVE and SISTERS OF MERCY roots. Tracks like the erotic 'Herodisiac', the catchy 'White Skies' or the heartbreaking 'Whiteomega' will for sure keep you in dark company through a night of fear and loss, both soothing and provoking.

"Both masterpieces were produced and mixed by Tue Madsen, pre-produced by Benny Richter.

"Each song a jewel, each song a stronghold!

"Keep your watch and do not miss this new MOONSPELL record, for it is a true mortal sin to stay away from these eighty minutes of music, beautifully and violently craved by one of the most legendary and imaginative bands ever to surface the European scene. Do not forget to get your hands on this masterpiece and to watch the band live in the summer festivals around Europe. 'Alpha Noir'/'Ómega White' will also be played in their entirety in Lisbon's Campo Pequeno, that holds 5,000 fans, in their homeland Portugal in the most daring stage set and visuals the band has ever tried."

MOONSPELL released a DVD, "Lusitanian Metal", in December 2008 in Europe via Century Media Records.

The band's latest album, "Night Eternal", entered the national chart in Portugal at No. 3 and in Germany at No. 62. The follow-up to 2006's"Memorial" was recorded at Antfarm studios in Denmark with producerTue Madsen (THE HAUNTEDDARK TRANQUILLITYHALFORD).

24-7 Spyz (pronounced "twenty-four-seven spies") are a band from the South Bronx, New York, formed in 1986, originally consisting of Jimi Hazel (real name, Wayne K. Richardson) (guitar), Rick Skatore (real name, Kenneth D. Lucas) (bass), Kindu Phibes (drums), and P. Fluid (real name, Peter Forrest) (vocals).
The band is best known for mixing soul, funk, reggae, and R&B with heavy metal and hardcore punk. The fact that they are African Americans playing variations of heavy metal led critics to compare them to bands such as Living Colour and Bad Brains. Though they were pioneers in the fusion of these particular music styles, influencing many bands, they have never achieved substantial commercial success. After several lineup changes, the band broke up in 1998, but reformed in 2003 before releasing their first new album of original material in over a decade in 2006.

I recently read Joey Tempest's comments that he never thought that Europe could ever record an album like 'Bag Of Bones' and, to be fair, hardcore fans of the band aside, he wouldn't be the only one having such thoughts.

For so long the punchline to every pomp rock joke due to the phenomenal success of THAT SONG - surely both a blessing and a curse - Europe blurred the imprisoning lines of genre labelling with their 2009 album 'Last Look At Eden', an impressive collection of songs that was less of a re-birthing for the band, more of a respect refresher to the minds, and ears, of others. Its follow-up, however, mixes things up even further; the epic scope and tone of '...Eden' replaced with a bluesy, retro rock sound that consumes the entirety of the project.

With uber rock producer Kevin 'The Caveman' Shirley at the controls - producing, mixing and engineering - and Black Country Communion's six string maestro Joe Bonamassa guesting with some slide guitar (and former Frehley's Comet/secret Kiss drummer Anton Fig providing percussive overdubs too, fact fans), 'Bag Of Bones' is fully committed to ridding Europe of their parptastic AOR tag and, instead, cementing the band's footing in classic rock territory.

Still not sure? The first minute of album opener 'Riches To Rags' should convince you, John Norum's fat riff, Tempest's classy vocals and a typically intrusive hook all over your stereo like a dirty rock rash. 'Not Supposed To Sing The Blues', the album's first single, wastes no time (coming in at track number two) in pinning the band's influences to the rehearsal room corkboard. With lyrical references to AC/DC's 'Back In Black' and the like, the song is a love letter to a place where the band ideally see themselves residing, the destination seemingly set to be arrived at during the course of this, the Swedish band's ninth studio album.

'Firebox', with its swathes of keyboards - generally replaced, Praise the (Jon) Lord, throughout the duration of this album with gorgeous Hammond organ from Mic Michaeli - and Eastern-themed midsection, is possibly closer to the band's shackle-breaker of a previous album than anything else on offer here, but the sunbleaching of the band's sound is quickly restored with this album's title track, 'Bag Of Bones', a fine example of how to transform a standard slow verse/massive chorus tune into something memorable. 'Requiem', a twenty seven second instrumental piece, seems oddly placed between the album's fourth and fifth tracks - and would possibly have been earmarked as an opening intro if the band didn't appear to be so adamant on coming so quickly out of the gates with their rejuvenated retro rock sound - but its moodiness does put you in the zone to fully appreciate the song that follows; 'My Woman, My Friend' opens darkly and seductively before unfurling into a massive brawl of riff, hook and organ that combine to form the album's stand out track.

'Demon Head' is the kind of song that will adhere itself to the band's long-term fans, perfectly colouring the massively catchy choruses of the band's former guise with broad strokes of the blues that they now find themselves coated in, while 'Drink And A Smile' impresses with its rootsy charm and subtlety. 'Doghouse', however, is the closest that the album gets to papering over the cracks of the running time with formulaic filler, rehashing a Thunder/Havana Black piece of guitar work that roots the song in the past for all the wrong reasons; this song and the album's cover, a clichéd piece of rock cover art that replaces the modern art punch of its predecessor, threaten to make things appear dated rather than a paean to musical days gone by, but, thankfully, these appear to be a couple of blots on the landscape.

'Mercy You, Mercy Me' revolves around a riff so big that you can just imagine it rattling bones in a live setting, its chorus chanted back at the stage by the legion of committed fans in attendance. Final song 'Bring It All Home' is a slow burner, the nearest the album gets to a power ballad, I guess. It's a spirited, polished affair nonetheless, although its medium pace means that the record does limp over the finishing line somewhat, rather than bursting through the tape with a lung-busting final push.

The production, as you would imagine given Shirley's track record, hits home with every swing. It might not break any new ground but it manages to expertly combine the punch of a modern rock record with the warmth of vintage equipment and that, I'm sure, is all that the band would have wanted from the knob-twiddling legend nodding in approval through the studio glass.

John Norum's playing will no doubt please the aural anoraks who indulge in such curious pleasures, while Joey Tempest's vocals again confirm that he is one of the finest singers in the classic rock realms; his winning smile assuring female fans of the band that the man with whom they have dreamt of rocking the night alongside, or underneath, since the '80s still has it.

Further distancing themselves from the ties that bind them to their past, Europe have looked to the past of others while moulding 'Bag Of Bones' into the success that it will surely be. David Coverdale, for example, upon hearing this album, will probably put his feet up on his mountain of home perm kit packaging and mutter "my work here is done."

That this new work will resonate favourably with Europe fans is an understatement: in fact, I can imagine, come year end, the majority of classic rock aficionados naming 'Bag Of Bones' as their album of the year because there is high quality, not danger, on the tracks.

Brendan Benson is back with another solo album, this time releasing it on Readymade Records, his own record label and publishing company. No need to talk of The Raconteurs here, as Benson’s What Kind of World is strictly his own sound (though he worked with Ashley Monroe on this album and once with the Raconteurs). As a result, the album offers some of Benson’s best songs to date.

“Bad for Me” has a great chorus line with a strong string presence, while “Here in the Deadlights” utilizes distorted guitar riffs. Benson’s “On the Fence” has an old bar piano sound as he and Monroe swoon about living in-between just about everything.

What Kind of World will be out in stores on April 21 (pre-order here). Stream Benson’s record below and check out his upcoming tour dates.

Rare!3-D was a short-lived American rock band of the early 1980s, best known for the hit singles All Night Television,Telephone Number, and the New Wave classic X-ray eyes.
They toured with such groups as The Ramones, The Cars, Eddie Money, Poco, and U2. Keyboardist Teddy Wender and Vocalist Ric Zivic have a music production business currently in Manhattan where they produce music for TV and commercials. U2 opened for 3-D at the Ritz in April 1980; they also appeared on SNL that same month.[1][2] They opened for the J.Geils Band on the Love Stinks tour circa 1980. Ric and Ted also produced the music for The Learning Channel's children's show Bingo and Molly and the current popular show Overhaulin.
As a keyboardist, Ted has recorded and performed with Michael Powers, Albert King, Wilson Pickett, Ben E King, Dr. John, Johnny Winter, Ric Derringer, Gordon Waller {Peter&Gordon}, Paul Jones, Odetta, Bill Chinook, Ray Draper, Gary Stewart, and Loudon Wainwright III (Ted played piano on Dead Skunk). Ted also composed two dance hits for the Doobie Brothers and the Memphis Horns. Flower Kings Vocalist Hasse Fröberg & Musical Companion Second Album ‘Powerplay’ Now Available

4/5/2012 – Sweden – The progressive rock community around the world is on fire about legendary Flower Kings vocalist Hasse Fröberg and his group Musical Companion new album ‘Powerplay’. Available on Reingold Records on April 23, ‘Powerplay’ is the second album by Swedish progrockers Hasse Fröberg & Musical Companion. About a year after the release of their critically highly acclaimed debut ‘Future Past’ (Sept. 2010), the band entered the studio to cut the backing tracks for ‘Powerplay’ (April 2012). This time around, HFMC provides even harder hitting progressive rock – a must for fans of Rush, The Flower Kings and YES!

” ‘Powerpay’ is more wild and crazy than ‘Future Past’, ” Hasse explains. “Still, the melodies are in focus and we’re still the same guys in the band, so you’ll definitely recognize our sound. Some of the lyrics are by far the most personal I have written, while others reflect the world around us. At least the way I see it.”

Hasse Fröberg & Musical Companion:

Hasse Fröberg: Lead vocals, rhythm guitar
Anton Lindsjö: Lead guitar, backing vocals
Kjell Haraldsson: Keyboards, backing vocals
Thomsson: Bass, backing vocals
Ola Strandberg: Drums, backing vocals

The debut CD generated gigs in countries such as Sweden, Norway, Germany, Holland and Belgium. With the release of ‘Powerplay’, the band is now confirmed for festivals (“RoSfest”, Gettysburg in USA and “Night of the prog”, Loreley in Germany) as well as gigs on both sides of the Atlantic.

As sound engineer on ‘Powerplay’, the band has chosen to work with Tomas Bodin. He’s a collegue with Hasse in the established and influential prog band The Flower Kings. The collaboration proved to work out just fine and even if Hasse likes to be in the studio, he prefers the live scene: “Playing live is definitely the right element for us. I really can’t wait to take The Musical Companion and and the songs on ‘Powerplay’ on the road”.
