2012, Great things come out of Sweden, not just ABBA and this album is one of them. Founded by ex-Prime Sth drummer Kasper Lindgren and featuring the vocal talents of Tobias Gustavsson, Coma (guitar), Henrik Edenhed (Bass) und Kasper Lindgren (Drums), all of them experienced and very successful songwriters and producers in Sweden. They already shared stages with ALICE COOPER or DEEP PURPLE and proved to be one of the hottest Swedish rock bands these days. Opener 'Monster' is just that, a monster of a song complete with a hook to die for. Singer and guitar player Tobias Gustavsson mentioned 70's and 80's hard rock and grunge as their inspiration source.

To get an idea of Ash Gray and the Girls sound on their debut disc, Born in the Summer, one could simply consider the cover art and the album title. The former echoes the art of the late Sixties, and the latter refers to 1967, 'the summer of love,' when Haight-Ashbury became the center of the Hippie universe.
If that's not enough, here's a third clue: Ash Gray covers 'Bus Stop,' The Hollies hit from 1966. It's symbolic of his influences, having grown up in the UK and weaned his parent's Sixties record collection.Born in the Summer is rich with the folk to psychedelic styles that permeated the music scene of the counter-cultural revolution. Measures of Eastern intrigue fill many songs thanks to the presence of a Sitar. Where 'the Girls' come in is as his harmony vocal support for Ash Gray.

When a band is dissolved in 87 meets in 2007 and editing a new record need to ask several questions. The first, and logic, would be the reason for the comeback after years of silence. The second is whether the group has the quality to re-enter the world of music despite the change in industry and in the genre they play, heavy classic. Both questions will answer them at the end of this review.
Oz Knozz – True Believer (2012)
Jun 13, 2012 20:18
Melodic Rock | AOR
Houston, Texas band Oz Knozz was originally formed all the way back in 1969 by current members Duane and Bill Massey, plus Jack Alford. Their first album "Ruff Mix" came out in the mid 1970s, and plenty of touring followed. It wasn't until 2008 that the follow-up emerged, and that makes new album "True Believer" only the 3rd album in 42 years.
You know what? Whilst this album isn't going to change the musical landscape, if the band had consistently been making music like this for the past four and a bit decades, I have a sneaking suspicion they would be up there with the likes of UFO and other vintage pedallers of classic rock.

One can't help but be impressed with the level of technical skill and symphonic grandiosity of Burning Point's "The Ignitor." The problem is that once one gets over being impressed by this Finnish band's big guitar and keyboard-rich sound, there's little there to move the spirit.
Granted, when you've got guitarists as technically proficient as Pekka Kolivuiri and Pete Ahonen, you're going to want to use them to maximum effect. The band does just that on the opening track, "Eternal Flame," which is easily the best song on the album. It starts with almost baroque acoustic guitar and keyboards before repeating the phrase, this time with full-on electric fury before heading into speedy power-metal territory, complete with Ahonen delivering a falsetto scream.

Oddland – The Treachery Of Senses (2012)
Jun 12, 2012 14:09
Progressive Rock
Someone has to popularize the term Nordic Progressive Metal. With bands like Leprous, Ihsahn, Shining, Enslaved, Vintersorg, ICS Vortex and Borknagar, there’s clearly something brewing up there in the northern regions of Europe. Cue Oddland, a Finnish quartet who won a national metal competition to get signed on Century Media. And they definitely fit in line with the mentioned bands as a force to be reckoned with in Progressive Metal. Imagine the groovy undertones of Gojira, Meshuggah and Lamb of God employed in a Leprous-like flamboyant progressive fashion. Imagine vocals that sound like Daniel Gildenlow of Pain of Salvation. And odd mix, is it not? Well, that’s what Oddland sounds like. Their debut album The Treachery of Senses is an enjoyable and refreshing joyride of progressive metal that will hopefully establish Oddland as a force to be reckoned with.

Amanda Lepre's debut full-length album is of heroism, inspiration, and despair. Her appreciation for the stories and composition in video games is threaded into songs like "Undying Hero" (Final Fantasy 6) and "The Gift" (Actraiser), while others are of classic literature - most notably, The Inferno by Dante Alighieri. Her own journey in their quilted creation is chronicled throughout; the songwriting in Beneath the Forest of Error spans over a decade.
