When Journey wrapped up their latest album ‘Eclipse,’ guitarist Neal Schon still had an itch to make more music. Conveniently, a break in the action allowed him the time to knock out enough material for two new solo albums.As Schon told Ultimate Classic Rock during an interview this past weekend, the two albums, including one that reunites him with his former Journey bandmate, drummer Steve Smith, are very different. Schon calls the album he made with Smith “one of the most rockin’ records I’ve made.”
By definition, custard is "a pudding-like, usually sweetened, mixture made with eggs and milk." It's not exactly a name that you would associate with heavy metal, especially German power metal. Nevertheless, from that underground scene comes Herne's Custard with their fifth album, Infested By Anger.
Another quizzical paradox of Custard is the vocal style of Olli Strasser. A simple glance at this hefty bruiser of a fellow, you would not think him capable of the higher register akin to Halford. But he pulls it off, sort of like a cross between Halford and Sammet.
So here I am sitting in traffic. It’s at a complete standstill, and it looks like I’m going to be here for awhile. The radio station is on a commercial break, and the droning promises of easy loans, easy weight loss and easy money from ambulance-chasing lawyers permeate the air like a floating plague ready to devour anyone who simply takes the bait. Man, I need something to listen to. I frantically begin flipping through what seems like countless waves of little plastic discs. Page after page, it’s No. No. Been there, done that. No. Hell no! That is, until I come across one that catches my eye: Lizzard’s Out Of Reach. Okay, mes amis français, let’s see what you have for me this time around.

Falsettos are a parameter for sure as well as a fabulous vibrato, almost operatic! On the other hand, it possesses so much roughness, it can Rock as hell! The Greek band is here to suggest some of their own things around Metal, served with lyrical extensions; I’d say it’s a pure Metal band, featuring Progressive elements. Motif is epical and majestic, choruses are totally melodic; you are about to listen to some Doom tunes, that’s also inside the package. For instance, “Cage of sins” is one of those songs…
