Since his Billion Dollar Babies heyday, ALICE COOPER has steadily applied his makeup, toured the world and continued to build his fame as a horror comic hero. Ever the canny marketer, Cooper has now reunited with his original band – high school classmates that helped him make his name – to record “The Revenge Of Alice Cooper“.

Despite their sometimes rocky past with Cooper, guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway, drummer Neal Smith and their ’70s-era producer Bob Ezrin all sound committed. And in a sweet touch, the late Glen Buxton (who died in 1997) makes “a special appearance” on “What Happened to You” via a guitar part excised from an unreleased recording.
The idea of ”The Revenge of Alice Cooper” is to recapture or at least try and convince fans that Cooper and his cohorts can still bring the melodic, sinister hard rock with a dangerous edge. While in 2025 not everything has that menace, a tune like “Wild Ones” with its galloping beat strives convincingly to be an anthem as Cooper roars, “Revving up our engines, sharpening our claws / Cause baby when you’re hungry, the jungle is the law.”

New track “Money Screams” has shades of Babies’ “Elected” in its lyrics: “You’re a billion dollar baby/ Swimmin’ in the gravy, yeah yeah.” In “Kill The Flies,” Cooper takes on the persona of Renfield, a character memorably portrayed by Dwight Frye in 1931’s Dracula whom the singer has previously immortalized.
There are moments when Cooper and the band seem to realize their age, like on the awkwardly titled “Crap That Gets In The Way Of Your Dreams” where the cracked 65-year-old protagonist who started on the guitar at 16 muses, “Was I wasting my life? Were they right all along? / Should I bury my wife or just write another song?”
While the “School’s Out” rebellion may have aged into wishful daredevilry, “The Revenge Of Alice Cooper” is still a fine representation of the glory days.
