German hard rock / metal veterans MAD MAX proudly open a new chapter in their 45-year legacy with the announcement of their new lead singer Alan Clark from Durham, UK – also known from the band Dark Heart. Alan’s authentic British rock spirit and commanding melodic voice bring fresh energy to the band as they prepare for an exciting run of releases leading into their 45th anniversary in 2026.
Before entering the next era, MAD MAX are looking back where it all began: on November 28th, 2025, the band will re-release their legendary debut recordings – the EP In Concert (1981) and the seminal full-length Heavy Metal (1982) – both newly remastered by expert Rolf Munkes, via ROAR, a division of Reigning Phoenix Music.
The term ‘Heavy Metal’ was relatively new in 1981-82, but the guys in MAD MAX knew exactly the ‘musical meaning’ and it’s reflected on this pure classic metal disc. Founding member Jürgen Breforth adds: “When I founded Mad Max in 1981 all my idols and influences came from the UK like Def Leppard, Judas Priest, Status Quo or Iron Maiden. That’s what our debut album is all about”.
The German based legends MAD MAX from Münster are currently in full swing, as they are working on two special releases at the same time. The focus is on the 45th anniversary of the band, which was renamed MAD MAX in 1981 and formed the previous year as a cover band before quickly switching to their own material.
This was released in 1981 in the form of the four-track EP “In Concert” and the debut album “Heavy Metal”, which followed in 1982. This made MAD MAX pioneers of a new German hard rock and metal scene, which until then had only known THE SCORPIONS and ACCEPT.
At that time, MAD MAX was strongly influenced by the NWoBHM movement and bands such as JUDAS PRIEST, SAXON and IRON MAIDEN. Both recordings have now been bundled together and re-mastered by Rolf Munkes.
Fans can expect the ultimate MAD MAX experience: The legendary ”Heavy Metal” reissue this November, the much-awaited new studio offering Stories Of Destiny in 2026, and a full touring schedule alongside their powerful new frontman. The legacy continues – stronger than ever!
